Some people don’t like crowds and Montpeliers can certainly be crowded. However, I’ll state for this review, that the times I have been there for lunch it has been a much calmer atmosphere to the place. The restaurant is just a little too far away from Princess Street and the town centre for the businessmen and women to get there for lunch.

Montpeliers is the busiest restaurant that I know of in Edinburgh; and I know lots of restaurants in Edinburgh.
Its pouring with rain, I’m walking home, its half past midnight or thereabout and from somewhere down the street comes a glow of light and laughter. That glow is Montpeliers. It is a lovely, warm glow.
Montpeliers seem able to cater to such a broad range of people. Students (Edinburgh students, mind, rarely a Napier home) to businessmen and families as well. Montpeliers, I would say, is half restaurant and half pub. Good.
