INTRODUCTION Having been to Vancouver for the first time with Ms Larsbaby on holiday, after a week there we went on to the east coast and Montreal. Montreal is a city I know quite well having been there three times before. I have friends there and so it's an obvious destination for me, perhaps less so for those with no connections there. It was Ms Larsbaby's first trip there, and we headed onwards to some other parts of the province of Quebec surrounding Montreal with my old friend Monsieur Montreal. Here is an account of our adventures. ABOUT MONTREAL Montreal is located on the east coast of ... more

Advantages Advantages Many beautiful sights with lots of shopping and cafes

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only if you need to speak French

Montreal is a city that is definitely worth visiting. It has many historical sites, such as the Notre-Dame Basilica, Hotel de Ville, Place d'Armes-, Place Royale and my favorite, the Place Montreal Trust Mall. It is also home to McGill University. We arrived in Montreal via the St. Lawrence River. We had been told that Montreal had an underground mall and were expecting something dark and sinister, but found a beautiful, modern, multi-level mall that was connected to the underground subway system. Those of us from the west coast who have never seen a subway system are in for quite an education ... more

Advantages Advantages Free entry, Interesting, highlt ornate.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not central

Montreal was the first city my wife and I visited on our tour of Eastern Canada. Our impression was of a large city with many very high rise office buildings, many, many shops and quite a lot of things to do. The evenings in Montreal can be spent looking around the hundreds of shops in the underground areas. There are many many miles of these shopping areas which can be explored. Another place to go is the Olympic Stadium which held the games of 1976. One of the most impressive buildings is the Notre Dame Basilica (a large church). From the outside it does not look as good. Once you step ... more

Advantages Advantages Plenty to see and do.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very cold in Winter!

I've just returned home after a two and a half week holiday to Montreal, satying with a friend. Yes! It is the middle of Winter there - meaning sub-zero temperatures and thick snow but it was well worth it. There is a vast range of things to see and do - more in Summer obviously - and a rich mixture of architecture, cuisine, cultures, everything. My capabilities are limited due to illness so I didn't get to sample the night life but during the day I visited Downtown Montreal - great for shopping and sightseeing, Old Montreal - very touristy but beautiful, the port - again beautiful, Chinatown ... more

Advantages Advantages scenic, great historical sites, friendly people

Disadvantages Disadvantages only that we ran out of money too fast

My boyfriend and I recently celebrated our one year anniversary in Montreal. We took a train, which took about 5 hours, that was probably the worst part. Taking a plane would have been much more comfortable. Our hotel was on a little side street off of Rue St. Catherine, which is their downtown area. It was fun to walk up and down, checking out their shops, which are similar to those in Ontario, where I am from, but also had the quaint charm of a French touch. The people were all very friendly, and spoke English quite well. The Harvey's that we went to even had smoking, which was good for me ... more
