I have traveled out to Montserrat 4 times over the last years, as part of my PhD work. I have found a friendly and resilient population on a beautiful island which has been hit by several tragedies, the latest being the volcanic eruption. Beautiful Montserrat

Advantages: No Place Compares
Disadvantages: Volcano threat at Present

I am surprised that no one has written about the beautiful island of Montserrat and how it was before the terrible volcano. Montserrat is a small island in the west indies, (roughly 4 miles round) very close to Antigua and Barbuda which you can see from Montserrat on a clear day (which is usually)! The Island has much greenery and is named the Emerald Isle. This stems from when the island had Irish inhabitants during the times of the Slave Trade. ...
...you notice the Montserratians surnames. There is also a strong English influence on the island, place names such as Plymouth (it's capital) and the sight of Red phone and letter boxes.
