The scale of the Moon Palace is hard to comprehend - we arrived at night and after check in we meandered our way through to our room - it seemed a long way. The walkways to the rooms are covered and uncovered - however the covered ones are laid out in such a way that it is possible to get all the way back to your room without getting wet should it rain. We went in the June and it was prone to the odd shower but then immediately warmed agained. The walkways are perfectly suited for disabled access. The room blocks are gound, 1st and 2nd floor, so lots of ground floor rooms.
The rooms are fabulous - a large queen sized bed, a large jacquzi bath at the end of the bed seating area, TV, large bathroom with a very large shower with a seat in it. And all the usual facilities you expect in a hotel of this stature. The doors are not air tight so if you don't have the air conditioning on at night you might find a few friends in the room with you by morning - we were on the ground floor though, a rolled up towel solves this if you don't like to sleep with the a/c on - like me.
To cope with the long meandering paths golf buggies tour about all day and will happily give you a lift, some even have cool boxes on and if you want a drink then they will stop and ask you. As its all - inclusive (should have mentioned that) you don't need to pay for anything.
In some respects as you walk around its abit like being in the Prisoner (doesn't sound very romantic) but they have speakers disguised as rocks in the verges that are playing music.
The hotel is located right on the beach, which doesn't get overly busy as all the facilities are centred around the large pool.
The hotel is located away from downtown Cancun but only a short taxi ride away - taxi's are permanentely available at the hotel.
There are activities arranged, there is entertainment but this information you could get off any website. They also have a good handful of their own restaurants on site, some of these do get busy owing to the number of rooms on the complex and it may be necessary to book.
The one thing the hotel lacks is a sense of where it is which comes from being isolated from the main resort - if you want to be able to wander out after dinner and promenade - your boundaries here will be the hotel, but if you are happy to be away from it all - don't worry. After all due to the differences in drinking laws in Mexico from the US, and it's close proximity - young americans can go abit wild.
Advantages: all inclusive, great people, friendy, superb accommodation Disadvantages: not a great deal to do at night once the entertainment has finished
Back in 2004 some good friends of ours announced their engagement and also wedding plans and said they were planning on getting married in September 2007 in Cancun, Mexico. "But that's 3 ½ years away - it'll never last". Well it did and we have just come back from a fantastic two weeks, all inclusive holiday at the MoonPalaceGolf & SpaResort, Cancun.
***Booking***
Given the wedding plans and the fact there were 21 people going we had to book early and this was done a year ago via Thomsons. Cost was circa £1800 for adults for flights, transfers and all inclusive accommodation. In reality, if we had booked at the last minute it would have been cheaper but we had to book early to guarantee getting in as this hotel is probably the biggest and most popular in Cancun, especially with the huge American market virtually on it's doorstep ...
Advantages: Close to airport, international brand drinks on AI, lots to do Disadvantages: Far too big
around to writing my own review on our last holiday, so here it is albeit 8 months late.
We went to the MoonPalaceGolf & SpaResort in Cancun, Mexico for two weeks from 29th Jan 2007. We only booked it about two weeks before hand so we got a very good deal. We knew someone who had been to the resort many years ago, and it sounded so wonderful that it was on our list of places we would like to go if we could afford it. We were looking for a late deal to go to the Caribbean at the end of January so when we saw the deal for two weeks at the MoonPalace for £3000 (should be a lot more) we jumped at the chance. We booked with First Choice because at the time their planes had the most room in economy out of all the tour operators, and this is rather important when you are both tall and it is a 10 hour flight.
The MoonPalace is a large 5 ...
