Full review
~ ~ When you walk through the front door of the Morgan Hotel you would be hard put to tell that it is located in the very heart of Dublin’s Temple Bar quarter, where every visitor to the city seems to congregate to visit what has become over the last decade the entertainment and nightlife centre of the city.

~ ~ Located in Fleet Street, just a stone’s throw from the River Liffey, it would be very easy to walk straight past the front entrance to a hotel that is now considered one of the “in” spots in Dublin. In fact, the front entrance to the Morgan is so small and discreet that if you happen to blink as you walk past, you’d probably miss it.

~ ~ This is cosmopolitan living of the highest standard.
Each of the Morgan’s 61 en-suite bedrooms are individually furnished in ultra-modern fashion, with the beds designed by French designer Pascal Morgue, and manufactured by Ligne Roset, all with a low-slung frame and high headboards, with the bedside lamps attached on both sides. The paintings on the walls are by Irish artist Siobhan McDonald, and the overall effect of all this individuality is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

~ ~ As well as the designer furnishings, each room comes equipped with every convenience imaginable to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
There is the by now almost standard Satellite TV, but at the Morgan you also get a video player, as well as a small hi-fi system and CD player, in case you fancy winding down with a touch of music or one of the latest video releases. The hotel even has their own small Video/CD library for the use of guests!
You have tea and coffee making facilities, an in-room safe for all your valuables, full air-conditioning, a well stocked mini-bar, and an ISDN line to plug your laptop into either for work or play. (easy to check up on your Ciao account)
If your feeling a tad more energetic, you can try out the small fitness centre, or have a massage or aromatherapy treatment to help you wind down after your hard day’s work or play.

~ ~ The Morgan is unique in other ways as well, as it is one of the few hotels that I know of this standard that have no public rooms, not even a dining area.
All your meals are served in your room on very swish and stylish crockery and cutlery, with breakfast costing an extra £7 on top of the room rate. There is no dinner menu, only snacks from room service, so unless you’re not very hungry you’d be well advised to step out the front door and sample one of the dozens of restaurants in Temple bar, serving International cuisine from all corners of the globe.
If you fancy some traditional Irish music, Oliver St. John Gogarty’s, one of the cities best Irish music venues is directly opposite the Morgan, and right next door you have the “Sports Bar”, one of the places to be seen in town for the younger set.

~ ~ And this is the beauty of this plush hotel. You are right in the middle of everything, with all the glitz and action of Temple Bar happening all around you, and only a hop, step and jump from the main shopping areas of O’Connell Street and Grafton Street.
Trinity College (Book of Kells) and the Central Bank (old House of Lords) are about 200 yards away, and Dublin Castle and Christchurch and St. Patrick’s Cathedrals are within 5 minutes walking distance.

~ ~ One word of warning. The Morgan has no car park of its own, and parking is in the public car park directly opposite the hotel. Not only is this fairly pricey, it is often full, and the area is not well endowed with other convenient parking facilities.

~ ~ And the cost?
Not as much as you might think! The standard rate per person is IP£105, (roughly £80 Sterling) which is exceptional value for a hotel of this calibre right in the middle of the city. You may be able to negotiate a lower rate in the off-season, but Dublin is so popular a tourist venue these days that there really ISN’T an off-season any more.

~ ~ The Morgan can be contacted by phone at 0044-1-679-3939 or by fax at 0044-1-679-3946. Their email address is sales@themorgan.com.
