We went to Rome last january for my sisters birthday and we decided to stay at the Morgana hotel. Because it was her birthday we decided to hire a limo from the hotel to come and pick us up at the airport. When we arrived at the airport, there was a sign for us. We went to the car park all excited then he got to his car and said get in. It wasn't a limo. It was an italian limo, which means a black mercedes van. We didn't realise this, but we just saw the funny side and didn't let it ruin our trip. On the way to the hotel the driver was pointing out beautiful points around the city and he was telling us the history of certain monuments. He was very friendly and a great member of staff for the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted at the reception. We checked in and 2 men took all our luggage up to the rooms as we waited downstairs. There were leaflets at the desk and she was willing to offer advice and where to go in Rome. We went upto the room and it was huge. The ceilings are very high and the rooms were very luxurious. The wall is lined with red silk with like a gold pattern design on. We had a very posh marble bathroom, a nice mini bar, a big T.V with cable, a nice long desk and a big wardrobe with a safety deposit box in. We then went ove to the huge windows and opened the shutters. We had a great view over looking the street below so we could see the hustle and bustle of everyday life in Rome.
The next day we went down to breakfast which was served from 8-10 am. The whole hotel is themed with a tartan sort of style and the breakfast room looked very luxurious. It was small compared to other hotels i've stayed in, which i'm glad. As it was a small hotel there were'nt that many guests there. The breakfast was mostly a choice of croissants, baked goods, bread, cereals, cheese, hams, jams and toast. There were yoghurts, fresh fruit and different drinks such as Tea, Coffee, Orange, Pineapple and Apple Juice. The staff were there to assist you if you wanted to order a pot of tea and they were very willing to put fresh croissants out if you wanted them too.
After breakfast we went out exploring the city and the hotel is a great location to start you off. It's near to everything. It's about a 15 minute walk to the Coloseum, 10 minutes to the spanish steps and the Via Condotti with the posh shops. It's near the train station if you want to venture more out of Rome City Centre. When we got back to the hotel we realised our rooms had been cleaned to a very high standard and somehow managed to form a pile of all the clothes i had just flung out of the suitcase. Before going out at night we usually went to the lounge bar, where a member of staff would tend to your needs.
There is many restaurants surrounding the hotel, and there is too many too choose from. There is a really good italian restauarant down the road from the hotel and there is a huge selection of bars where fun can be had in your visit to Rome. In my opinion the eating out was at average cost, it wasn't too expensive but it wasn't dead cheap either. A meal usually cost about 50 quid for 4 of us with a bottle of wine.
The staff are very friendly at the hotel as it is a family run business. There is 24 hour help always available at the main desk also. I didn't see many children at this hotel, so i would say it's for the older clientel. On our last day when we checked out, there is a book on a desk near the reception where you can write a comment and it has people from all over the world like; New York, Sydeny, Holland etc. I would love to come back to this hotel as it is a piece of luxury but at a discounted price. We paid roughly 60 quid per room per night and thoroughly enjoyed it. So if anyone is planning on going to Rome i would definitely visist here again.
