Tangier: City For Dreamers

Advantages: Everything I've mentioned in the review, an affordable, truely unbelievable city.
Disadvantages: Poverty and pollution, try to help out as much as you can.

Ok, first off I would like to say that I may have an ever so slightly biased point of view due to my ethnicity being half Moroccan, but...Tangier is by far the best city in Morocco. There is so much to do and see and so much culture that you easily become immersed in the city's surrealism. For me it is easy to see while so many poets, artists, writers, and musicians have visited and lived in Tangier (like the Rolling Stones, Jack Kerouac, William ...
...This city is like no other, with its beautiful beaches and intoxicating night life, it is hard not to have a good time here. Days can be spent lounging on the beach or bargaining in the casbah for a pair of baboosh or a pretty jellaba. At night one can explore the boulevard as everyone seems to be out for a good time. I recommend visiting the lounge TangerInn, a great little bar with cheap drinking and great company in a location that really en captures ...

The Highest in North Africa

Advantages: The view and the achievement
Disadvantages: The gruelling climb-up and down

Mount Toubkal is half the size of Mount Everest -yet the feeling of achievement once conquered is probably just as much. Lets start at the climb; over 4,000 ft up and the highest point in North Africa -it 's no walk in the park. When I climbed Toubkal I got up at about 4.00am, and it was just getting light outside. If you are considering the climb then it is recommended that you get up early , as the heat can be hard to climb in. The very top ...
...the path looks very dangerous and steep from down below. The first part is infact very steep-the ground varies from huge boulders and stones, to gravel and grit and snow- the toughest of them all. . The rocks are very large and it takes big steps and a lot of effort to climb up them. In between the rocks is gravel which is easy to slip on and can get frustrating when coming down the mountain. The guides were a lifeline giving a helping hand and ...

Taroudannt, gateway to the Atlas.

Advantages: Unspoilt by French colonialism, friendly people, extremely cheap
Disadvantages: Along way from major tourist areas

Taroudannt is a small town in the south western part of Morocco. It is notable for its proximity to the Atlas mountains. It is a perfect place to spend the night before heading up into the relatively under visited Western High Atlas. ARRIVAL Taroudannt is a five hour bus journey from Marrakesh, this costs about £7 one way! Casablanca is about nine hours away and costs about £15 one way. We took the bus from Marrakesh and left on the bus for Casablanca ...
...no train station but we heard from two Australians that a taxi ride from Agadir train station had been reasonably cheap at about £20 per person. Agadir is about three hours away, but is on the main train line. OTHER INFORMATION There are no real problems in Taroudannt for foreign visitors. The usual health risks are apparent, such as malaria and outbreaks of cholera (which ocur very rarely). You should have had all of the innoculations when you ...

The beautiful flowers valley

Advantages: Between greenery and mountainous desert
Disadvantages: Sinuous Road in mountain, little infrastructure.

Waw First op in this category. Here I’m back again in my south Morocco Trip. Back to Ouarzazate after a week end in Zagora and the region, I had a warm welcome in the little hotel (got from the routard) that I reserved. Very nice with a small swimming pool (a little bit badly placed in my opinion but it is a good to get it anyway) and a tasteful restaurant, beautiful patio with squares of ground and full of divers plants just to take a cafe ...
...anxious to follow me when I revealed him my projects of excursion in the gorges of Daddes and Toudra. The advantage is that he knows very well the region and that I was able to negotiate a good price for the tour (a full day ~10 £ but this was exceptional). Not having a car, we left Zagora in a big taxi. Arrived at Ouarzazate and having found the hotel, my guide took me in a car rental agency where I could choose the cheapest (Fiat Uno). The pledge ...

TAMBOCTOU 52 DAYS

Advantages: Fairy scenery and so much constrast
Disadvantages: Very hot in summer time (mid June to mid September)

...to. Here I start by Zagora in the Southeast of Morocco : I will never forget my first step in the lovely earth of this little town. The bus went strait the (only) boulevard till the end of it and stopped in front of a little door (the bus agency). I’ve been first helped by a local guide (the only one of the place apparently) who proposed a very nice convivial hotel with a swimming pool and a restaurant, lovely little rooms filled of made ...
...a mosquito-net in the window, a tv/satellite and beautiful bathroom (then I cancelled the beautiful hotel I’ve booked as it was twice expensive, moreover it was a little far from the city centre, so need a car which I didn’t have at the time). There were a lot of big taxis (6 places + driver) and were so cheap, then I took one with my guide to visit the greatest and the oldest Coranic library of the country which is located in a small ...
