Abandon all hope, ye who enter here
Advantages: none Disadvantages: Too many to list
...nightmare.
The plane landed in Moscow around 22:00 and the flight to London was not until the morning after. Me and my friend went trough immigration ready to spend the night together, sleeping somewhere at the airport. The guy who checked the passport, a middle age man with a miserable expression on his face, said something to my friend that, after translation, I couldn't believe. He ways saying that I could go trough passport control and spend ... ...Russian, she had to go trough the Russian passport control and spend the night in the general waiting area on the ground floor.
Now let's look at the following non-sense:
a) Why a Russian citizen, while in transit, cannot spend the night in the transit area?
b) Why on the outbound flight, with a transit of two hours, the same person was admitted trough the area?
c) Why the bags of my friend had been checked all the way trough London when in fact ...

The famous Russian gallery.
Advantages: Disadvantages:
All russians and guests of Moskow know about this pearl of Russian capital - the Tretjakov Gallery. It was found in the last, 18, century by Tretjakov brothers. They was mecenats - the gave money to the painters, bought their paints and sculptures. And now we can see that all in this Gallery. Today there are lots of different paints, sculptures, fotos and other famous, interesting and beautiful things. The famous russian painters - Rublev, Repin, ...

Red Square 2007 review
Advantages: Must be done if you are in Moscow Disadvantages: Dont get caught out by the queue system
I visited Red Square in November 2007. The earlier review on this site seems to be completely out of date so I thought I would do an update for you.
Lenin's Mausoleum is a "done it, tick it off" sort of attraction. He does look like a waxwork and the debate goes on about whether it is actually him. One tip that may save you some time is that you are not allowed to take in cameras or large bags. The queue starts nowhere near the mausoleum, it is ... ...city.
As you enter Red Square from the main gate you will see a museum on your right. We had lunch there at the restaurant called 1 Red Square. Its a fantastically expensive place but if you ask for the business lunch they serve you a good 3 course meal with a bottle of water. When the bill arrived it said 250 Roubles. I questioned this as this is only £5 for 2 people. I was told that it was correct. Top tip - ask for a business lunch in a Moscow ...

Modern shopping in the heart of Moscow
Advantages: Central location, pleasant surroundings Disadvantages: Not very Russian, pricey, can be busy
Okhotny Ryad is a modern underground shopping centre located adjacent to the tomb of the unknown soldier, behind Red Square. It has a selection of high-class boutiques and luxury shops. As I went on a school trip none of us could afford very much with prices, comparable to those in the UK, being a little too high for us poor students. There is a large, easilly accessible internet cafe, which is reasonably priced with helpful staff. Perhaps lacking ... ...quick bite to eat (and use the loo!) without spending too much time in a more formal sit-down restaurant.
All in all Okhotny Ryad is a nice place to have a look at while you're in central Moscow, but not a place to visit just for it's own sake. ...

Unmissable.. but is it him
Advantages: Just to be able to say you've seen him Disadvantages: Limited opening times
The Lenin mausoleum is a small pyramid shaped building of black and red granite cubes and on the front of the building reads the name ‘Ленин’ (Lenin). Although it’s not the most imposing building, it’s one of Red Square’s major tourist attractions. Behind the mausoleum, under the outer wall of the Kremlin, lie the graves of many other famous Russians, which can only be seen after leaving the mausoleum. Lenin’s mausoleum ... ...week (Tuesday – Thursday, Saturday and Sunday), which was the main reason it took me so long to get around to going to see it! It’s one of those tourist attractions you can’t come home without seeing, even though I wasn’t really interested in seeing Lenin’s corpse, if indeed that’s what it is. Entrance is free, but I would expect that in summer you may have to queue. While the mausoleum is open, the rest of Red Square is closed off from the public ...
