Lots of Historical Russia in a small space
Advantages: Central, interesting and striking Disadvantages: Crowded, lack of information
The Cathedral Square sits right in the middle of the Kremlin, and contains as the name suggests sevaral cathedrals. All in one area are five cathedrals/churches, one famous bell tower and a palace.
Entrance fee to the cathedrals are included in the entrance ticket to the Kremlin, although this may not be very clear while trying to acquire one in the hut outside the entrance!
Apart from the Cathedral of the Archangel, the Church of Twelve Apostles, ... ...Robe and Cathedral of the Annunciation, the square is also home to the Ivan the great Bell Tower, a beautiful octagonal structure that, when it was finished in 1600, was the tallest building in Russia.
Behind it lies the 200 tonne Tsar Bell, which broke in two during the fire in 1737 and never got put to use.
Opposite the bell tower is the Faceted Palace which is now part of the great palace.
The queues and hordes of people inside the cathedrals ...

Tiny, cramped and ornate
Advantages: Interesting and cultural, central location Disadvantages: Small, lack of information, not very accessible
...Not for the claustrophobic!
The church is filled with icons and painting by many artists, mainly depicting the virgin Mary.
That is also who's robe it's name refers to, the church was named after a Byzantine feast day which celebrates the arrival of a robe that was supposed to have belonged to the virgin Mary to the city of Constantinopel.
The robe is said to have saved the city from invasion many times.
Like so many other cathedrals and attractions ...

Bolshoi Teatr
Advantages: Fantastic occasion Disadvantages: Don't get conned by travel agencies
Note: As of the end of 2005 the Bolshoi is undergoing renovation works. As with most public service investment in Russia it is uncertain when the theatre will re-open. For the time being, Bolshoi Theatre productions are being held in the Malyi Theatre, just 100m or so behind the Bolshoi. The Malyi venue is far less impressive than the Bolshoi, but it's still worth a visit for the productions themselves.
The most famous theatre in Russia, with one ... ...Bolshoi stands in the centre of Moscow as an homage to Tsarist opulence amid the utilitarianism of Socialist Realist architecture. By day or by night (when lights are trained upon the impressive structure, replete with horse-drawn chariot) the outside makes wonderful viewing. Inside, however, crystal glass chandeliers, velvet chairs and gilded lamps threaten to upstage the theatrical performances on stage.
I have visited the Bolshoi on two occasions, ...

Modern shopping in the heart of Moscow
Advantages: Central location, pleasant surroundings Disadvantages: Not very Russian, pricey, can be busy
Okhotny Ryad is a modern underground shopping centre located adjacent to the tomb of the unknown soldier, behind Red Square. It has a selection of high-class boutiques and luxury shops. As I went on a school trip none of us could afford very much with prices, comparable to those in the UK, being a little too high for us poor students. There is a large, easilly accessible internet cafe, which is reasonably priced with helpful staff. Perhaps lacking ... ...quick bite to eat (and use the loo!) without spending too much time in a more formal sit-down restaurant.
All in all Okhotny Ryad is a nice place to have a look at while you're in central Moscow, but not a place to visit just for it's own sake. ...

Not a place everyone goes..
Advantages: Beautiful! Disadvantages: If you canīt walk long distances, donīt go here
Kolomenskoe (Or Kolomenskaja as they say in Russia)
(Remember, I am only doing a review on the natural "park" of Kolomenskaja, not the whole of Moscow, as I understand somebody might have thought so)
"This was a strange subject to write about" you probably think right now... "never heard of it" probably comes right after.. I agree, but I saw that they had a category for it, and I thought "Hey, Iīve been there!! So why not write about it? Nobody ... ...Christmas is on! Kolomenskoe features vintage wooden structures built by many of the country's Tsars, one of the most beautiful churches and examples of Russian tent-roofed architecture in the country, and is a beautiful place to just take a snowy walk in the winter, or sunbath in summertime. Since I were there in January, with -20 degrees, the idea of sunbathing never came across my mind, even remember buying a bottle of Fanta on the way, and it ...
