Top quality modern, central and personal hotel.

Advantages: Comfortable, central, friendly, professional
Disadvantages: Expensive, questionable problem handling

I stayed at this very central hotel in Tverskaya for a long weekend and really liked it. All the public areas as well as bedrooms are well kept, modern and clean. There are constantly housekeepers pottering about with dusters. The lobby is vast and marbled, with a stained glass ceiling surrounding a picture of the Godess Aurora. The food is superb if a little expensive (but that should be expected). The staff are attentive, helpful and friendly, ...
...very tidy, in good condition and fitted with all the mod cons, are not very luxurious. The word basic springs to mind but does not really suit, maybe simple design is more like it. The bathrooms are nice and big, with separate bath and shower, floors and fixtures in marble and with a large mirror and sink / vanity area. The security is fairly tight, which is sometimes reassuring and sometimes annoying, The concierge insist on security staff watching ...

Hotel Pekin Moscow

Advantages: Central
Disadvantages: Its a dump

Hotel Pekin Moscow I have read many reviews on this hotel & most of them are bad... very bad. I was there September 2007 & the staff are terrible. I have never been treated with such utter contempt. Not one person will help you. They are utterly useless & often aggressive. I booked my room in advance. I faxed the details, they faxed my confirmation with room cost & reservation number. I confirmed all this by email but when I got there a few days ...
...their own fax & they still had no clue. After staying two days they decided to put the rate up & the manager told me 'Give me that paper' when I showed her the fax. When I complained this was insane to put the cost up after we had agreed the rate, she just started making out going phone calls & glared at me. To add to the prison camp atomosphere we also get the prison camp food, the breakfast is third rate & in the in house resteraunt is road kill ...

Staying at Hotel Ukraina

Advantages: Wonderful sense of modern Russian History
Disadvantages: A little dated and a 20 minute walk to the nearest tube station.

...the residents of the Hotel Ukraina could stand by and watch the proceedings of tanks and shots from across the river. Caught up in the events one resident was actually hit by stray gun fire. From the windows of your bedroom you can see the mix of old soviet industry directly across the river with the bright lights of the new capitalist state over the over side of the split in the river. It is a hotel almost on its own but within walking distance ...
...casinos. The Best Qualities of the Hotel The Sheer history and old 1930s art deco grandeur now somewhat faded. The uniformed porters at the front can provide you with a trolley for your luggage as in some of the best hotels in London but first that same luggage must go through the X-ray machine which is a sympton of growing terror threats in the city. There are three restaurants, two with typical georgian food and one with western food, personally ...

Location, location, location

Advantages: Centrally located, outstanding views towards the Kremlin and Red Square
Disadvantages: Facilities may not cut the mustard for business travellers

The Hotel Rossiya is only spitting distance from Red Square and the Kremlin - with one side of it looking out directly across Red Square and St Basil's Cathedral. For most people the proportions of the Rossiya are simply mind boggling - its 2,876 rooms make it Europe's biggest hotel, and it sneaks into the background of many holiday snaps - its central tower peaking over shots of GUM and some views of St Basil's Cathedral. I'd originally read only ...
...rooms", and "ex-KGB brothel" being par for the course. On the other hand, seeing as this monolith of communism is going to be pulled down next year, I thought I should sample the Rossiya whilst I could. Apparently it will be replaced with a shopping centre - further proof that Russia is trying to embrace capitalism with open arms. It came however as no surprise that the Rossiya had a gargantuan maze of corridors - landings connecting the hundreds ...

The National Hotel, Moscow

Advantages: Central, great views, the food, the service
Disadvantages: Price

We stayed at the National Hotel in Moscow last August (03) for 3 nights. This hotel has to be one of the best hotels in Moscow. It is centrally located, overlooking the Kremlin and is easy to find if you are unlucky enough to have to drive there yourself. I would recommend you use a taxi is possible as the cars in Moscow don't know about speed limits or safe distances. The Hotel reception personnel all spoke excellent English and we had no difficulty ...
...desk in the hotel who were happy to give Americal dollars or Russian rubels. Our room was okay, but then again we were not paying much compared to the best rooms. Each evening the beds were prepared for us and a chocolate mint left! We used the conservatory snack bar just beyond reception a few times and found the food to be good. It was obviously prepared there and then for us and was tasty. The breakfast resaurant is on the first floor at the front ...
