Considering an Everest Trek
Review of The Everest Region (Nepal) by pishton

Advantages: May Force you to take start at Jiri.
Disadvantages: Logistical headaches.

...Well it seems that workmen the world over choose the most awkward times to do their jobs. Just as road repairs go on at the busiest times in the UK the Nepali government has chosen the busiest season to repair the airstrip at Lukla. Lukla is the closest airstrip to Mount Everest that is available to tourists. Virtually all trekking and climbing parties fly in to Lukla before the walk north. Its busiest period is the spring trekking season from February to May. In peak periods the airstrip seas 15-20 flights per day. Tourists and the goods they consume arrive here in huge numbers during this period. The gravel airstrip is struggling to keep up with this pressure and is in need of repair. The only feasible time to repair it is during the trekking season when the weather conditions are optimal. Unfortunately this will have a huge impact... Read review

Darjeeling: Queen of the Himalayan Region
Review of Darjeeling (India) by rishmitra

Advantages: Beauty of the Himalayas, Tea gardens, Trekking, Rafting, Physical and natural History
Disadvantages: Poor drainage. Unclean drinking water, so always drink bottled mineral water

...are wondering what Kanchenjunga means; it means ‘thigh of God (Shiva)’. Himalayan Zoological Park: This Zoo boasts of being the only zoo in the world to breed Tibetan Wolf in Captivity. It also breeds rare animals like Siberian Tiger and Snow Leopard. This is a must visit place and lovely experience for children. I loved it as a kid. Tea Gardens: Tea is the Gold of Darjeeling, as it’s the main revenue generator in Darjeeling economy. Just to let you know tea making not what you make at home, but processing of it is a very complex procedure. You get to see it in Darjeeling were thousands of women workforce pluck tea lives for further drying. Supposedly its not a man’s job as you need softer and delicate hands to work on tea. Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI): The cremation point of Tenzing Norgay is here apart from the Everest Museum... Read review

Information for Backpackers
Review of General: Nepal by kambodscha-joe

Advantages: cheap, friendly and interesting
Disadvantages: fare away, expensive ticket

..., but in upper regions there is snow and it is very, very cold during the night. Good trekking conditions are form March to May, the best time to climb the Mt. Everest. How much time you need? Two weeks (without time to go and leave) are enough to do the Jonsom Trek, the Chitwan National Park and the Kathmandu Valley in a fast way. You have more time to relax and enjoy the sights, if you have one or two more weeks. Add one more week, if you think to do the Annapurna Circuit. If you have more than a month you can try the Mt. Everest trek, without fear to miss your plane in Kathmandu. The time depends on your luck to get a flight to and from Lukla. Budget: The air ticket from Frankfort to Kathmandu via Bahrain was 650 Dollar. The Nepal government charge another app. 100 Dollar for Visa, trekking permit, departure tax etc. On a low budget you...
