Alton House Hotel

Advantages: Posh hotel, it looks nice, but...
Disadvantages: The staff

I went to stay here in 2006, I think. For my sisters wedding. It was a nice hotel, the architecture inside I knew wasn't real, but it was meant to look posh. Which it did, but only in one room... the reception. So, I stayed here for two days and one night. I didn't sleep on a proper bed, because the room was full in which I was sleeping in (Since its a wedding and all). So in the corner of the room, I had to sleep on a horrible, tiny, lumpy bed. Which can be folded again into a bag. Of course, I can't blame the hotel for the poor bed, because this was my own fault. I'm sure that if there weren't so many people I could of slept on the double bed, which is better. So, in the early days, considering to be the 1800's - Alton House Hotel used to be a house. Not a hotel. Rich people used to live in this house. It was only in the 1940's that ...

Hotel Mount Herbert, dublin

Advantages: Staff
Disadvantages: Evening Meal

The nature of my work requires me to stay in away from home for several weeks of the year so it is important that I stay at quality hotels. On this ossasion, July 2008, my company booked me into the Mount Herbert Hotel This is near the Lansdowne Stadium and about 15 mins from where I was working. I arrived at the hotel at about 7am and the staff on reception were extremely obliginging in allowing me to check in early. The room I was given was extremely clean and in good conditionand well decorated. It came with the usual tea and coffee making facilities, which were generously replenished on a daily basis. There is satelite TV and includes the four main UK chanels The buffet breakfast, that was included in the room charge, was well cooked and an excellent choice of items was available. On the negative side I was ...

Hillthwaite House Hotel - a Haven!

Advantages: Value for money, service, restaurant
Disadvantages: Drive is on a very steep hill!

I've just got back from a long weekend in the Lake District. You might question the wisdom of going to the Lakes for a weekend of watersports and outdoor activities in wintry March, and you'd be right to do so! However, the gale force winds, hail and snow were made bearable by the excellent Hillthwaite House Hotel where we were staying. The hotel was an absolute haven! Basics The hotel is a family run business and has about thirty rooms. We were staying on a special weekend offer and paid £185 each for three nights, including bed, breakfast and dinner. The hotel is in Windermere and is about a fifteen minute drive from the M6. It has a swimming pool, sauna and steam room. Getting There The hotel had sent a brochure after I booked on the phone and the brochure had a map on the back so I wasn't expecting any ...
