The apartments are a 20 minute drive from the airport and with the aid of a map we were able to find them quite easily. The Mounts bay waters apartments are situated on Mounts Bay road which is adjacent to two of Perths greatest attractions - the Swan River and Kings Park and is also just a few minutes stroll to the Perth central business district and also (more importantly if you like retail therapy) the shops!
Mounts Bay Waters apartments - also known as Mounts bay village, comprises of a number of buildings which house both hotel guests and residents.
Upon arrival we were quite excited as everywhere looked wonderful, not to mention clean, the reason for our excitement I will leave for another review, lets just say that our apartments in the last city, melbourne, didnt live up to expectations!
Anyway, There were six apartment buildings in all, each with there own unique name, Acacia, Borania, Caesia etc Which, incidently are all botanical names, for example, Caesia is a type of eucalyptus...I know, i know, just call me charlie (that lass with strange hair and no bra!) Everywhere was extremely clean and tidy and each building was painted in different pastel colours i.e muted pinks, yellows and creams....lovely!
There are two entrances into the village off Mounts Bay road, it doesn't really matter which one you enter or exit from as the road just does a "U" through the village and back onto the main road.
Once inside, the road is fully block paved and very beautifully lined with trees, and as it runs in front of the apartment buildings it gives it much more of a courtyard feel. There are also parking bays which are generally used for visitors but which are easy to nip into until you have been to reception and checked in.
There are two reception areas located at either end of the village, now this was a gamble as to which one to go to, as it was, we went to the wrong one for the particular apartment we were staying in, but were politely sent in the direction of the other.
The reception staff were very friendly and dealt with our check in efficiently and quickly...quite unusual for OZ as they are usually on go slow all the time - and that is not a complaint or criticism as i quite like that whole laid back "no worries mate" kinda feel.
Once checked in you are handed your key which is more like a security card really as they are very security concious at Mounts Bay. The key is programmed to access your assigned car park area, building entrance door and lift, yes lift, you cannot even use the lifts without a swipe of the card!
If you do have car hire, the car parking is very easy, as all of the parking spaces are situated under each building which can be accessed via security gates after swiping your card from the comfort of your car. Each apartment has its own allocated parking space which is clearly marked - no fighting for a parking space here! From the underground parking your apartment can easily be accessed up a small stairway to the lifts. Stairway can be a bit of a pain, if like us you have loads of luggage!
The apartments themselves are ultra modern, very spacious and not to mention pristine! All apartments have air conditioning which can be controlled by yourself. Believe me when I say you will need this, especially during the summer months, temperatures can reach in excess of 40 degrees!
The kitchen and lounge are open plan and both contain everything you could possibly need and more.
Kitchen - Fridge freezer Microwave Oven Dishwasher Plus many other appliances, kettle etc. And a whole range of crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils and equipment..home from home!
Lounge - Very comfortable with two sofas, a writing desk, satellite T.V, DVD and Video! There was also a dining area with nice round table and chairs. From the lounge was access to the balcony which gave a view over the courtyard, swan river and also the central business district of Perth, which was beautiful when lit up at nightime.
We stayed in a two bedroom apartment (there are also 3 bdrm apartments). Both bedrooms were of a very high standard with matching bedlinen and curtains. There were also plenty of cupboard spaces in both rooms.
The first bedroom with double bed had an ensuite with shower, toilet and basin, complete with hairdryer and plug for other things...Luxury! There was also another balcony accessed from this bedroom which overlooked the gardens at the rear below.
Bedroom two housed two single beds, this room also overlooked the gardens at the rear.
There was a separate bathroom with a bath this time, and upon further investigation, open the cupboards and, voila, a washing machine, tumble dryer and sink! Yes, all in the bathroom, and sooo well hidden!
Outside, there are swimming pools, tennis courts and gymnasiums, there are two of each which form sort of a mirror image of one another located at either end of the village. The pools are small, but perfect for a dip at the end of a day. To be honest the beaches are so wonderful and close by, it is very rare that you would use them anyway.
Bikes can be hired from reception ; $5 hour/$10 half a day/$15 all day. Helmets are also supplied, which incidently are compulsory in Western Australia. There are some great cycle tracks around the Swan River and throughout the city.
There is a restaurant located on site from which you can also have take aways or order room service. There is also a bar on Mounts Bay road, The Waldorf which closes once the last person goes and if thats at 7pm in the evening, then thats when it closes! We found this quite amusing, but that is apparently just a Western Australia thing, people tend to entertain at home, rather than in bars.
There really are an abundance of things to see and do, and this really is a fantastic place to do them from. Its Modern, extremely clean, safe and close to many of the sights and attractions.
We stayed for nine nights at the Mounts Bay Waters apartments, which we booked through an agent. It cost us approximately $840, which was extremely good as they really do live up to their 5* rating.
