Thanks to some business trips I've visiting Geneva quite a lot. Glamorous? No - as I've only seen the hotel, the airport and two offices. On the plus side - the hotel that's close to the office is pretty nice - in fact I was suitably enough impressed to be motivated enough into writing this op!

Location
~~~~~~
The hotel is really close to Geneva airport - about 5 mins in car. It's just off one of the main roads near the airport. I was quite surprised by the lack of noise coming from the airport - normally airport hotels aren't conducive to sleep thanks to jumbos taking off at all hours. There’s not much else in the area other than offices and a large supermarket. For restaurants etc.. you need to head into Geneva itself which is about 5-6km away – or over the border into France for a better (and cheaper) selection of restaurants.
The address is:
20 Route de Pré-Bois
PO Box 556
1215 Geneva, Switzerland
Rooms
The hotel had 15 floors which give it 350 rooms of varying sizes. These floors are split into smoking and non-smoking. Before I describe the rooms that I stayed in I’d like to give you a word of advice as I learnt this the hard way:
* How to use the lifts: *
I left my house at 5am on a dark morning later in November in order to catch my lfight from Heathrow. So I was already tired before I had even got up. The journey, thankfully, went smoothly and I arrived in my company’s office in Geneva by the mid-morning where I was greeted wth an enormous list of tasks. I worked through until 9pm when those of us who were working late went out for a meal. By this time I could barely stay awake but decided to be sociable with my newly met colleagues. We popped over into France to an Indian restaurant for what I was reassured would be a quick meal. By 10-30pm I couldn’t keep my eyes open and at 11pm managed to persuade one of my colleagues to drive me back to my hotel. I checked in as the office secretary had already reserved a room for me. My room was on the 14th floor (there is no 13th floor). In my weary state I dragged my bags into the lift only to discover the buttons only went up to 12. I thought that maybe not all the lifts went to the top floor so decided to get out at 12 and walk up the last flight of stairs or change lifts. Got out at floor 12 – went into the stairs – bags in tow still – climbed up 1 short flight only to find the door was locked and I couldn’t get out the stair case. I nearly cried. This was a fire escape only staircase. I had to walk down 12 flights of stairs – with my bags – out the back of the hotel and back round to the front. I rushed pashed reception hoping they wouldn’t notice me and laugh – got back into a lift and discovered that the buttons for the last 2 floors were on the other side of the door and I just hadn’t seen them before. I was so tired I that I didn’t even have the energy to laugh at my own stupidty
Back to the rooms:
I stayed in 2 types of rooms. The first was spacious and had a large double bed, large en-suite bathroom in marble with both shower & bath. Mini-bar; trouser press; kettle; hairdryer; tv & pay TV; wardrobe; additional hanging space and a desk; telephone; modem connection. The rooms are nicely fitted out with most of the furnishings being maple-effect. The second room had a small coffee table & two arm chairs in addition to everything listed above. It also had two pull-down single beds.
The minibar was well-stocked including the unusual addition of some condoms. As usual it was overpriced with items ranging from 2.50CHF (soft drink) -40CHF (champagne – v, small bottle).
The beds were very comfortable – especially on my first night there. You also get a nice fluffy robe if you’ve got time to lounge around.
The TV can be set as an alarm and also tells you whether there are any messages for you.
Overall, I thought the room was of a high standard – better than the normal hotels I get to stay in on business trips.
Rates
I got a discounted corporate rate but the normal rates are:
Single Room: 290->440 CHF
Double Room: 380->530 CHF
Suite: 660->2500CHF
Breakfast: 26CHF
At the time of writing it’s approximately 2.2CHF to the pound. There are also special deals for weekend breaks that include meals.
Hotel Facilities
· Telephone – you can set up a direct dial number for you room if you wish. The phones allow you to have voice mail anyway. If you set up a direct number you can keep the number for return visits. Personally I think this is pretty cool.
· Express check-out – if you’re going to be in a rush in the morning you can opt for express check-out. This basically means leaving your credit card details at reception on arrival and you just get invoiced later.
· Flight check-in – another cool feature. With most major airlines you can check-in for your flight at the hotel. They take your luggage off you as well. I found this handy as it meant that I didn’t have to cart my bags around any further. You also get a good seat. I don’t think BA let you check-in like this though and I was concerned about the security implications. I was however very relieved when my bag successfully turned up at Heathrow more than 12 hours after I left it.
· Restaurants – there are a few restaurants in the hotel. I tried the Japanese Sushi one where both the food and service were good. I also ordered from the bistro for room service and I highly recommend the Teryaki Salmon.
· Fitness area – there is a fitness area in the hotel but unfortunately I’ve not had time to visit it yet.
· Shop - there’s a little shop on the ground floor for any items you’ve forgotton and daily newspaper etc..
· Room Service – room service isn’t quite 24 hours but you can order breakfast in your room for 26CHF including a paper. For meals you can order a selection of dished from the restaurants. There’s also a laundry service.
· Golf – I noticed there’s also a golf service where they arrange for you to be driven to one of the local golf course and they book you in. All for a fee, of course!
Conclusion
Overall I was impressed with this hotel and would definitely recommend it. It’s a bit on the pricey side if you’re forking up for yourself though.
