Advantages: Like home from home Disadvantages: None whatsoever
...The Bay Tree Guest House in Truro is excellent in every way. It is five minutes from the railway station, and five minutes walk to the centre of town. Bay Tree is owned and run by Mrs Ann Renninson Talbot whose motto is "Arrive as a guest, leave as a friend" We found this to be so true. From the time she personally welcomed us at the door until we left the following morning, nothing was too much trouble. The room was large and homely with a comfy bed and lovely soft towels. Plenty of storage space and loads and loads of tea, coffee, sugar and milk, and biscuits. There were magazines outside the door for guests to peruse, and the breakfast was DELICIOUS. Whatever we wanted, and plenty of it. I have NEVER seen such a large selection of jams and spreads for our toast, and there was a choice of 14 different cereals. Something...

Advantages: relaxing, charming, good food, good to explore Disadvantages: not for 18-30 types
...Gozo - unless you are an 18-30 type, you will like this place. Get a cheap flight to Malta (we paid £120 in June 2000 - expedia), get to the ferry asap and hang out on Gozo.
Accommodation
We stayed at the San Antonio Guesthouse http://www.clubgozo.com.mt - pool, breakfast, a steepish 500m walk from the centre of Xlendi harbour at £30 approx per night. George, the owner, is friendly and tireless, running a clean, well-presented place (see their website for pics and more info).
Xlendi

Ever since I read a review in a guidebook to India saying that Golden Temple made the Taj Mahal look a tad on the tacky side, I was hooked. Regardless of where else we were to go, Amritsar was a 100% sure thing.
My cultural references for the GT were relatively few. It appears in the background of one of the song and dance sequences in 'Bride and Prejudice'; it has a key role in the life (and death) of Indira Gandhi, a woman I'm fascinated (and sometimes horrified) by; and you'll find a picture (or two) on the wall of any Sikh business you ever visit. I'm fascinated by world religions and there could be no better place to learn...

Introduction
A 1942 film, this has become famous for the reason it was made - to gain the sympathy of the American public, who at the time, did not fully appreciate the situation Great Britain was facing. Despite it being a propaganda film, it is... more
