As the weekend just gone is my only full weekend of this month we decided to make the most of it. After our booze cruise to France last Sunday I though that I’d love to see a bit more of France, we drove over and hopped on a ferry, the cost of this was £102 for the weekend, we then drove down to Paris, looked at the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame. These were lovely to see but not as spectacular as Mont St. Michel. On our second day in France we decided ... ...wracking drive through the Arc de Triomphe! This was a bit like the wacky races and something I wouldn’t recommend! Mont St Michel is located on the north west coast of France, about 3 hours drive from Paris in the gulf of St. Malo. We were staying in St Lo overnight and we saw a leaflet on the Mount and the receptionist in the hotel said that you couldn’t come here without visiting the most beautiful place.
She certainly wasn’t wrong, we then decided ...

If you are taking the car across to France and travelling to stay are just passing through make an effort to visit this charming and unusual place. It is very different from the 'places to visit' you will normally see and, because of its popularity it is one of those places you will see at its best. It is always overcrowded. But, do not let that put you off. You will enjoy the climb to the top and marvel at the ingenuity of shopkeepers and the like ... ...to the top you must put out of your mind the commercial side of things and cast your mind back to what it must have been like ages past. Car parking is more than adequate and you will enjoy seeing your car as the ants must see us. I visted on the way to Pont Avon in Brittany and it broke up the journey nicely, amused the children, and it has been nice since to look at the pdotos and be able to say you have been there. We have our own St Michael's ...

Advantages: Free to get in (to main part) Disadvantages: Difficult / No access for wheelchair/pushchair
Mont St Michel in the Gulf of St-Malo off the coast of Normandy, France. The Benedictine monastery (founded 708 AD) was used as a prison from the time of the French Revolution (1789-1799) until 1863.
I visited Mont St Michel on a day trip during a fmily holiday in June. I was with my husband and 2 children (age 2 and 4 months at the time). The day we went was overcast to the first view of the Monastry was not as spectaular as I'm sure it is on a ... ...then walked about 100yards to the entrance and then paid another 1 Euro to use the loo! It was heaving with people when we got there which was a bit scary with a toddler who wanted to run and explore and a pushchair to manouvre. The path were very narrow and cobblestone which was great to see as I love all things historical but it was very difficult with the buggy and in hindisght I should have used a baby carrier (we had one back at the hotel!!). ...

Advantages: One of the best places in France Disadvantages: Not great if you are diabled I would think.
Dont ever go to France and miss this. If you do you are guilty of a crime. This is an almost magical place filled with charm and originality like nowhere else on earth. The chaleur of the people beyond reproach. Teh scenery staggering. The little lane that runs up to the top reminds me of the samll lanes found in Cornwall with the little shops and brilliant at night. Dont forget to see this place at night also. There is a son et lumiere (Sound and ... ...if you think it may be busy. It will be worth it, and I say that with certainty. If anywhere in France needs to be seen it is this.
Parking - Arrive early. Don't forget to read what that parking ticket says as well. You will not be to charmed with the place if you come back to the car park and find your car submerged! I have been asked for more info so here it is:
Mont St. Michel is on the north coast of France, near the border of Brittany and ...

I brought this for my cycling mad husband and watched it with him, not really expecting to enjoy it. I was surprised it was interesting and a great look back at what life was like in the early days of cycling. I think is well worth buying for both the... more
