When a friend suggested on a hike in Spain earlier this year ('07), he sold me to the idea straight away - as all he needed to say were four words, and they were 'highest mountain mainland Spain.' What could be more fulfilling than to attempt such a peak! So our trip to Mulhacen was born.


I am used to walking in the lakes and high up in the Scottish highlands, but it is always nice to have a change in scenery, and weather ...
...soon there were five of us destined to go on this trip. We purchased flight tickets through Ryan Air and then sorted out accommodation on the net.


Mulhacen is not an easy mountain and you have to be an experienced walker to try for an ascent. I have been walking for years and have a few of the biggest Scottish mountains under my belt. And my four companions were the same. Although there is a well worn path that leads you there, ... more

Easy way to reach high altitude

Advantages: Anybody can walk up, warm air in high altitude.
Disadvantages: Plain countryside, no cliffs

As I already wrote in my other reviews i was in spain by my car in 2005. Im fancy mountain climber and therefore i surely wanted to get on the top of the highest mountain in spain. That mountain is Mulhacen located close to Grenada in mountains called Sierra Nevada. Its altitude is 3,478.6 metres. We have driven to the beach south from the Sierra Nevada and after breakfast that was about 7.30am we (me and two friends) started to climb with our car ...
...a long way since you have to climb about 2.600 meters with car so the road is very crooked. about 9.30am the road started to be very dusty and the car was slipping in curves. We thought that we maybe passed the parking place and we are going wrong way. After 20 minutes we finally got to the parking place where almost no cars were parked.
