As I already wrote in my other reviews i was in spain by my car in 2005. Im fancy mountain climber and therefore i surely wanted to get on the top of the highest mountain in spain. That mountain is Mulhacen located close to Grenada in mountains called Sierra Nevada. Its altitude is 3,478.6 metres.
We have driven to the beach south from the Sierra Nevada and after breakfast that was about 7.30am we (me and two friends) started to climb with our car to the south parking place in sierra nevada. It is a long way since you have to climb about 2.600 meters with car so the road is very crooked. about 9.30am the road started to be very dusty and the car was slipping in curves. We thought that we maybe passed the parking place and we are going wrong way. After 20 minutes we finally got to the parking place where almost no cars were parked. We took our bags and climbing boots and about 10am started to walk up.
First interesting about sierra nevada is the fact that it is like a desert - there is only dust and stones and nothing else above higher altitude. It is absolutely something different than Pyrenees - there is no water and it is really hot even above 3.000 meters.
We were going very fast to the top since we didnt took any womens. The way is very easy to find and really very very easy to walk. You have to climb only about 900m and lenght of the path is about 14km so it is like longer walk around:)
A few kilometers you walk also on a road where we met car twice and some bycicles so you can imagine that it is really flatland with no cliffs.
We got to the top about 1pm and i must say that the view is good but you see only sierra nevada since mulhacen is inside the mountains. Amd all th ehills around are looking same as mulhacen but still i really enjoyed it because it was the only place nearly 3500meters above sea where you can sunbath! Ya we were sunbathing about an hour on the top of the mountain and then we took the same 14km long way back.
On this mountain were more people then im used to but it is not crowded. On the road there are more and on the top we met about 10 people and that is not so bad while we were there for one hour.
So this trip i recomment to everybody because it is possible to go from 0meters by car and end on the same spotin the evening having a nice walk in very high altitudes. I thing that you can do it even in babouches:D
