I went to Munich for the Oktoberfest last year. I can't comment so much on Munich, what I did see was nice - also managed to see Bayern Munich play in the champions league and Tommy Haas Vs Agassi in the tennis open - so time your visit carefully sports fans! Also it's not far from Nurburgering if you're a formula 1 fan, you can get all of these in if you're lucky! One of the main attractions has to be the annual beer festival Oktoberfest, there's a big fair with all the usual rides and roller coasters and the infamous beer tents! While a lot of them have benches which are doubtless booked up months in advance, you can still get a beer if there's place to serve you at standing bars - where the atmosphere is no doubt better anyway! There to entertain you are oompah bands and service is provided to your bar - watch out for the beer, it comes in lire 'Stein' glasses and is strong to boot. Like the Rio carnival, this is an event known worldwide and has to be visited if you've got the means! It's easy to reach on the tube as well. Plenty of other distractions as well, including top sports if you time your visit well. Don't forget your hangover cure!
