Advantages: Free, large gallery of Spanish art, Picasso, Miro etc and good temporary exhibits Disadvantages: You may not of heard of the artists, but it's good to see something different
...I visited this gallery while on holiday last May, and if I get into Palma on another trip to Majorca in a few weeks time I intend to go back. If you compare the size of the gallery to the island it is on, then Museud'Art Espanyol Contemporani is bigger than Tate Modern. The gallery's collection, however, is more speciallised to modern Spanish art, mainly paintings, with its permanent collection including Picasso, Miro, Tapies and Barcelo, but most tastes should be accomodated. A few rooms upstairs are given over to temporary exhibitions (Lichtenstein 7/3-17/6/06 and I saw Luis Gordillo on my visit). The gallery is well curated and presented.
Entry is free, so everyone who goes to Palma should visit. It's a nice relaxing space, and if you study all the work then you can spend half a day here. Also good if you're stuck looking...

Advantages: visually stunning, will keep you entertained for hours Disadvantages: none
...Admittedly, I'd never even heard of this place when I was told we were going to visit it. I had already spent one afternoon trawling round some Picaso museum in Barcelona ( wouldn't have been so bad, but it seemed rather dark and dingey and full of his early work that didn't really interest me) and Dali wasn't really my cup of tea. So wasn't really looking forward to it to say the least.
Anyway, a 2 hour coach ride later and we arrived in Figueres along side one of the strangest, yet at the same time probably one of the most intriging buildings I have ever seen. From what I could see of it it was a dark slmon pink in colour and covered in what I can only describe as yellow blobs. At one end it has a tower and sitting on top of the tower, as well as the sightly lower flat roof of the rest of the building...... some pale yellow egg...

Advantages: Spanish culture, sights and wowness Disadvantages: ....Searching......Searching.......None found.....
...Loney Planet says: 'A feast for the senses, Catalonia's capital has a distinctly Mediterranean feel. Its revitalization for the 1992 Olympics made Barcelona the place to be on the continent. A picturesque location, Europe's best-preserved Gothic Quarter, Gaudí's delightfully cheeky architecture and galleries with the treasures of Miró, Tápies and Picasso make Barcelona visually stunning indoors and out. "New Catalan Cuisine" and tapas bars tempt the taste buds, and the nightlife and music are on the cutting edge.' And thery are dead right.
There is so much to talk about the sub-capital, but here is my top 4 highlights of my trip.
Top sights:
Sagrada Familia:
Otherwise known by the complicated name of : Temple expiatori del sagrada familia (church of the sacred family)
If you are into churches and/or architecture as a tourist...

Pop these days is a dirty word to those interested in serious music, this was not always the case. There was a stream of bands in the eighties that managed to meld pop melody and sensibilities with a rock attitude and format. The Icicle Works are a... more
Intro: I bought this in Buenos Aires after hearing it played in a shop. The Gotan project cleverly uses a mixture of traditional instruments such as the violin and banadeon to create tango sounds mixted in with both electronica and modern beats to offer... more
This has to be one of my most played albums since I bought it 2 months ago. I listen to Chill FM on the internet and they had been playing this funky Cuban version of Coldplays Clocks a couple of times. I searched and searched to find out who had done it more
