WELCOME TO THE AGE OF SCIENCE (Natural History Museum)

Advantages: nteresting, educational, fun, something for everybody above the age of 2, free
Disadvantages: NONE

I was delighted to find out that National History Museum (as well as Science museum) became completely free of charge some time between 1992 when I last visited and now. As soon as my daughter was big enough to say dinosaur I took here there on one of our day London trips and we spent about 2.5 hours wandering about the collections. The building itself makes it worth a visit, now beautifully cleaned to reveal Neo-Gothic glory of the intricate multi-coloured facade where the sculptures depict members of the animal kingdom rather than gargoyles. Welcome to the beginnings of the science age. The Natural History museum comprises Life Galleries, covering mostly animal life (a lot of them extinct) and Earth Galleries, covering subjects like geology, volcanoes, minerals and the like. Please note that there is very, very little plant related ...

The Booth Museum, Brighton

Advantages: Free admission, lots to see
Disadvantages: None for me

of the first identification field guides and still are today. The science of natural history might have come a long way today, especially with the use of DNA but without the vast collections like this one at the Booth Museum none of that might have ever happened. The Booth Museum is open at the following times: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday 10am-5pm Sunday 2pm-5pm Facilities include a small gift shop that is strategically located at the reception in the entrance meaning that you need to pass by this when you first enter the museum and also again when you leave. There are toilets that are equipped for disabled visitors and there is also a reference room/library. Admission is free so if you are in the area and this sounds like your sort of thing then pay it a visit as it is highly recommended by me. Booth Museum of Natural ...

Review of Booth Museum of Natural History (Brighton)

Hanko Front Museum - a labour of love

Advantages: Interesting, well researched, great for history buffs, different to other museums
Disadvantages: Lack of captions in English; you may not be into military history

! At first he talked very slowly, drinking copious amounts of coffee (as most Finns do); he apologised for his lethargy claiming a "major naval engagement" the night before was the reason for his tiredness, this he later explained was a euphemism for being as "pi**ed as a newt". He explained that the museum was created (and built) by him and his father (a veteran of the war in Finland) and that, in order to have full control of the way the museum is presented - and the line of history they put forward - they are fully independent, accepting no grants from the government or other bodies towards the running of the museum. Instead, these dedicated men have amasses an amazing collection of items pertaining not only to Finland's part in World War Two but, to a lesser extent, the country's long road to independence and it's future as a member ...
