The Taliban in Kabul

Advantages: A powerful story
Disadvantages: Quite traumatic

. Khadra has written two other books, In the Name of God and Wolf Dreams. The story In a war-torn Kabul run by the Taliban, the lives of its citizens are being slowly destroyed, particularly two couples; Mohsen and Zunaira, and Atiq and Musarrat. Mohsen had dreams of becoming a diplomat; Zunaira wanted to become a magistrate, now the two of them are living in poverty. Atiq is a prison guard, who spends his days with those condemned to death; then when he goes home in the evening, he is faced with his wife, Musarrat, who is slowly dying a long painful death. The Khan's & Kabul

Advantages: Enthralling and Captavating
Disadvantages: none

I was at first reluctant to read this book as I was disheartend and saddend with the ongoing reports of war and fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan and the surrounding area. However as I started to read the book I was transported to a different place and what seemed a different time. He is married with children and lives in a small four roomed apartment with limited and extremely erratic facilities, in Kabul with his extended family including his ageing mother and nephew. The whole family is as follows:- Sultan Khan, Sharifa (his first wife ...

Hotel International

Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms

I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time ...
