Advantages: Very central, great location Disadvantages: Service occasionally a bit iffy
I returned a few days ago from a conference in Bruges, Belgium ? a city known far more as a cheap weekend break destination with it?s twee lace making, pretty canals and positioning as the ?Venice of the North? (though admittedly without the smelly water and the £10-a-go espressos). I had no say in where I stayed as the conference organisers had block booked the Crowne Plaza and my room was charged at a rate of ?155 per night which I suspect was probably a discount on the normal rate.
Where is it?
The Crown Plaza is one of the best situated hotels in the city and sits on the square known as Burg within spitting distance of the gothic Town Hall and the Basilica of the Holy Blood. Bruges is a bit of a rabbit warren so getting lost is always a risk. However as Burg is just next door to Markt (the big market square) it?s easy to find ...
Advantages: wonderful acting, good story and great scene variation, nice town also Disadvantages: the ending was predictable based on characterisation

the structures of these two films are similar, the plots are known fairly quickly and the acting is really good. using trains and train platform scenes also took place in both films. the one thing i question is the originality of in bruges as crime and shooting films are nothing new.

Advantages: An ok film, makes you think Disadvantages: A bit slow
Where the bloody hell is Bruges?
In Bruges is a 2008 comedy staring Colin Farrell (phrowaaaa) and Brendan Gleeson. When I read it was a comedy I was interested to see it because I think Colin Farrell is quite funny anyway so I thought it would be quite good,. I didn?t know much about the plot but as it also got an award I had high hopes.
Well, it?s probably best described as a dark comedy. It sort of reminded me of a Lock, Stock type funny film with the same type of London gangster laughs and get-ups. The main themes running through the movie are that are guilt, morality and redemption and it?s done well. In my opinion you do get to see some real emotion from the main stars and that they are really thinking about where they find themselves in their life. I didn?t love this movie though because I thought it was quite slow and not ...
