We had immense trouble deciding on a hotel for my husband's birthday break in Amsterdam. We're trying to find a reasonably priced hotel that wasn't too shabby and in a decent location. After reviewing all the options, we went for the NHCity Centre, if only because of it's 1920's styling and proximity to town.
We were not disappointed. The hotel is lovely with each room finished beautifully, if you like the modern thing (and we do!). The overall atmosphere is very calm and serene.
It took us forever to find the hotel, but that may have been because I insisted, as I had been to Amsterdam a couple of times before, that finding our way around would be easy, we could walk there and we didn't need a map. The hotel itself was pretty busy during our stay and mostly with business men and conferences, as the hotel offers many services for such people. Breakfast was to a high standard as was the evening restaurant, where the food was quite delicious; expensive, but tasty!
In terms of location, if you are indeed there as a tourist or quick visitor, the hotel is ideally placed to reach the main city centre. A 5/10 minute walk will lead you to the city's cathedral, Stephansdom, and from there you can find the main shopping streets of the city with all the big brand shops and designer brands, and such attractions as the Hofburg Palace and the Spanish Riding School. If you go in the opposite direction then it'll take up to an hour to find the famous Vienna Wheel or the Danube Tower with its rotating ...
