Disadvantages: Located a little outside of city centre

...Anyone who has read any of my previous reviews will have probably realised that I will use any excuse to travel. This year the plan was to spend most of it at home as we are saving money for our wedding, but when one of my friends announced that he was being seconded to Munich for 4 months, I was straight away planning a trip away! Having spoken to some of my other friends, we soon decided to make a weekend of it and I was tasked with planning flights and hotels. Despite the fact that we are now all working, we're all still students at heart so I was looking for a cheap hotel, but something above a hostel. ...'In Munich Stands a Hofbräuhaus'…or so, roughly translated, runs one well-known staple of Munich's beerhall sing-alongs. For many who've never visited this charming city (and perhaps, even for a few who have…) this, along with the even better-known Oktoberfest, an event which, to all intents and purposes, is little more than the Hofbräuhaus writ large, condensed into a month & transferred on to a circus ground, is pretty much all that Munich amounts to. Well, it isn't. MY MUNICH: I lived in Munich for about four years, in the late-seventies and early eighties. My earliest memories of the Hofbräuhaus involve sitting outside it in a parked Mercedes with my two brothers, when I was about six. ...We had immense trouble deciding on a hotel for my husband's birthday break in Amsterdam. We're trying to find a reasonably priced hotel that wasn't too shabby and in a decent location. After reviewing all the options, we went for the NH City Centre, if only because of it's 1920's styling and proximity to town. We were not disappointed. The hotel is lovely with each room finished beautifully, if you like the modern thing (and we do!). The overall atmosphere is very calm and serene. It took us forever to find the hotel, but that may have been because I insisted, as I had been to Amsterdam a couple of times before, that finding our way around would be easy, we could walk there and we didn't need a map. About an hour later we finally found the back of the hotel, exhausted from dragging our suitcases up and down a zillion canals... Read review
