Erlangen is located in Northern Bavaria, Germany. It is a university town, so a large number of students are living there, including many international students. It is very easy to find your way around. In the city center you can find anything....
There are also numerous nice pubs, restaurants and cafes all over the place. Highly recommendable are the "Teehaus" where you can get lovely Crepes and dozens of different types of tea and coffe. Then there are the Cafe Lorleberg, Murphy's Irish pub or Tio, all of them offer a nice selection of snacks and small meals as well as nice beverages.

I have been a student at Friedrich-Alexander-University ERlangen-Nuremberg in southern Germany for three years. And I have to say it is quite enjoyable! However, it depends on which faculty you are a member of. The law faculty can be quite stiff upper lip and a bit cold at times. The language and literature faculties though are really great. There are many international students and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The teachers are generally helpful. Whereas the law lectures are usually very overcrowded the language, social sciences, literature etc. classes take place in small groups. You can put together your own schedule (with some regulations on what you are required to take during your years of studying), so you can really attend whatever class interests you.

We had immense trouble deciding on a hotel for my husband's birthday break in Amsterdam. We're trying to find a reasonably priced hotel that wasn't too shabby and in a decent location. After reviewing all the options, we went for the NH City Centre, if only because of it's 1920's styling and proximity to town.
We were not disappointed. The hotel is lovely with each room finished beautifully, if you like the modern thing (and we do!). The overall atmosphere is very calm and serene.
It took us forever to find the hotel, but that may have been because I insisted, as I had been to Amsterdam a couple of times before, that finding our way around would be easy, we could walk there and we didn't need a map.
