Due to my job I'm about 15 times a year in Amsterdam. Up to now I have been in about 10 hotels there - it's amazing, but apparently due to rather low capacity of beds and mayby also other reason I never managed it until now to get a reservation at my next visit in the same hotel where I have been the last time.
Anyway! However, according to my experience I can recommend the Krasnapolsky as the best hotel in town. It is in the opposite of the so-called 'Dam' (famous church and large place) and it's very close to the Amsterdam Stock Exchange and about 10 minutes by foot away from the central station.
The Krasna is a absolute first class hotel. They hotel is very large, the Bar and the Restaurant are marvellous. The normal rooms are sufficient with a double king sized bed. Furthermore, there is a writing desk within the room. But please, don't expect for this price a realy large room. It's definitly not the case. Also, please take care in which direction your room is showing. I had it, that I viewed to the wall of the next building (not very impressiv). There is by the way a internet-page of the hotel (www.krasnapolsky.nl). There you can find some more details about it and it certainly possible to ask for special wishes like view to the 'Dam'.
Parking is also possible in the hotel. But I can't recommend anyone to search the hotel by car. I did it one time - it' was like a horror trip, because of only one-way streets, loosing signs and thousends of people who are not taking care of cars anyway.
Amsterdam is - f.e. compared with London - a little city with less space for the uncountable tourists. Especially the rich American and Japanese tourists besiege the hotel and the area (Dam) around. It's unbelievable how many tourists can occupy one square metre.
The price for one night in the Krasna is about GBP 120-150, mayby there is price-off during the weekends. Compared to other hotels which are only GBP 30-40 cheaper it's Krasna according to the price-performance-relationship the best choice which I can recommend not only for business-people but also for a private weekend-special.
By the way! Very close to the hotel is also the RLD (Red Light District). It is very safe there - there are even families which are living there. Have fun!

I stayed there 12 years ago and loved the hotel but choose not to stay there again as $200 were stolen from my Moms bag which she left in the room while we went for dinner and the admin wasn't very helpful in that matter, otherwise a quality hotel.
