Advantages: Comfortable hotel with good amenities Disadvantages: Not in the nicest of areas
Padova is not the first destination that springs to mind when thinking of Veneto, but a quick scan of the price lists for hotels in the rather damper Venice soon lends it a certain attraction. Yes indeed, Venice was our destination but we were spending just one day there and the hassle of lugging cases around that particular labyrinthian waterworld just to go through the same palaver the next day just made Padova even more attractive.
The Best Western Hotel Biri sits just outside the old city of Padova in an area that has been earmarked for development. It's all glass and concrete and tarmac and shopping malls and Macdonalds and...you get the picture. Still, the hotel itself was a belter and an easy 20 minute drive took you to the doorstep (or should that be quayside) of Venice.
As I said, the hotel surroundings are less than ...
Advantages: Close to town, Quiet, Nice rooms Disadvantages: Expensive bar
We had immense trouble deciding on a hotel for my husband's birthday break in Amsterdam. We're trying to find a reasonably priced hotel that wasn't too shabby and in a decent location. After reviewing all the options, we went for the NH City Centre, if only because of it's 1920's styling and proximity to town.
We were not disappointed. The hotel is lovely with each room finished beautifully, if you like the modern thing (and we do!). The overall atmosphere is very calm and serene.
It took us forever to find the hotel, but that may have been because I insisted, as I had been to Amsterdam a couple of times before, that finding our way around would be easy, we could walk there and we didn't need a map. About an hour later we finally found the back of the hotel, exhausted from dragging our suitcases up and down a zillion canals. It IS ...
Advantages: Value for money. Sparkling clean. Superb food. Disadvantages: Noisy trams if you get the wrong room.
An apology for boring you all with yet another travel / hotel review, but hopefully this one will be just a little different, due to our initial and entirely unscheduled discovery of this particular hotel. Indeed you could say that the room here fell into the "panic purchase" category. We needed a room for the night in Dresden and the Astron (as the NH was then called) had one available.
In actual fact more importantly than us, my then fiancée and I, needing a bed for the night, it was essential that we found secure parking for the car. The circumstances, you need to understand, both personally and on the global stage leading up to our very first stay in Dresden were to say the least, slightly unusual.
The purpose of our journey was one of those once in a lifetime, life changing events. I had driven out to Poland ten days earlier ...

Ciao members have rated this review on average: very helpful Review of NH, Dresden
NH Mantegna is a 13 floored ``Design'' hotel, it's name deriving from the famous painter Andrea Mantenga. It's location is perfect for both business travellers and tourists, whether you want to organise meetings or just enjoy the history and the art of Padova. It's warm and elegant restaurant, situated on the 12th floor has a breathless view over the beautiful city of Padova and offers creative international and Mediterranean gourmet cuisine.
