Advantages: Close to town, Quiet, Nice rooms Disadvantages: Expensive bar
...We had immense trouble deciding on a hotel for my husband's birthday break in Amsterdam. We're trying to find a reasonably priced hotel that wasn't too shabby and in a decent location. After reviewing all the options, we went for the NH City Centre, if only because of it's 1920's styling and proximity to town.
We were not disappointed. The hotel is lovely with each room finished beautifully, if you like the modern thing (and we do!). The overall atmosphere is very calm and serene.
It took us forever to find the hotel, but that may have been because I insisted, as I had been to Amsterdam a couple of times before, that finding our way around would be easy, we could walk there and we didn't need a map. About an hour later we finally found the back of the hotel, exhausted from dragging our suitcases up and down a zillion canals...

Advantages: Best price-performance relationship but on high level Disadvantages: crowded lounges, nothing for small wallets
...Due to my job I'm about 15 times a year in Amsterdam. Up to now I have been in about 10 hotels there - it's amazing, but apparently due to rather low capacity of beds and mayby also other reason I never managed it until now to get a reservation at my next visit in the same hotel where I have been the last time.
Anyway! However, according to my experience I can recommend the Krasnapolsky as the best hotel in town. It is in the opposite of the so-called 'Dam' (famous church and large place) and it's very close to the Amsterdam Stock Exchange and about 10 minutes by foot away from the central station.
The Krasna is a absolute first class hotel. They hotel is very large, the Bar and the Restaurant are marvellous. The normal rooms are sufficient with a double king sized bed. Furthermore, there is a writing desk within the room...

Advantages: Beautiful and very central Disadvantages: None
...The Barbizon palace was a fantastic choice of Hotels for us when we visited Amsterdam. For a start it is literally a one minute stroll from the station so nice and convenient.
When we arrived the staff were friendly and helpful and the public spaces were beautiful.
Our room although possibly a little smaller than i was expecting was lovely. It was clean and hygenic with pleasant furnishings and a large comfortable bed. There were french doors that opened out on to the canal so we could soak up the Dutch atmosphere even from our hotel room.
The Hotel is also very centrally located for any of the other attractions.
The hotel was well priced for what it was. I'm not sure of the usual room rates but a weekend deal here with Flights included cost just under £500 for the two of us.
A great deal and would highly recommend...

It doesn't get more central than the heart of Amsterdam, which is about 30 yards into the vibrant red light district. I would urge people to take the other review with a pinch of salt, bearing in mind that this is more suited to young people who are... more
Business trips can be tedious at the best of times but the tedium is exacerbated when overnight hotel accommodation offers little more than a bed for the night in a faceless establishment.
