Nadia Hotel, Amsterdam

This is the best 2* hotel I have ever stayed in. All the staff are helpful and they gave me the world's warmest welcome to their hotel.

We found the hotel on the internet and after reading a few review websites, we decided to try this hotel. They also have their own website which offers detailed information about the hotel, the location, rates etc.

From the central station, take tram 13 or 17 to Westermarkt stop (3rd ...

We found the hotel on the internet and after reading a few review websites, we decided to try this hotel. They also have their own website which offers detailed information about the hotel, the location, rates etc.

From the central station, take tram 13 or 17 to Westermarkt stop (3rd stop). It is Euro 1.60 one way and takes 3 minutes. Once you alight from the tram, walk backwards and the hotel is on your right. The hotel is less than 3 minutes' walk from Anne Frank's house and the Dam square is less than 5 minutes away. You can walk to most of the tourist attractions in Amsterdam from the hotel.

To get in to the hotel, you need to buzz them. After getting in, don't be afraid of the steep staircases. A staff pops out from the top of the stairs and told us that a porter is on his way. We were told to leave our suitcases downstairs and we climbed the stairs up to the reception. The steep staircases are not suitable for the elderly or disabled guests as the climb is challenging.

The check in was smooth. You have to pay upon check in. If you in cash, you qualify for a 6% discount. Of course, you can opt to pay with your credit card but there will be no discount given. We were told to choose drinks from the fridge as welcome drinks. We checked in around 1pm and the room was not ready yet so we were invited to sit in the breakfast room for a while. The staff gave us loads of leaflets, guidebooks etc and also a brochure of their hotel which has a detailed map on the reverse. There are also a lot of vouchers contained in the booklets/leaflets so make sure you read them carefully !

After a few minutes, we were asked to go back to the reception and this time, we were handed the key to our room together with a remote control for the TV. There is no need to pay a deposit for your room key as you have to hand your key over at the reception every time you leave the hotel.

Our room was located on the highest floor which means there are more stairs to climb. When we got in to our room, we saw that our luggage have already been placed nicely in our room. Our room was small but to our surprise, everything was in the room. There was a small desk with two chairs, tea/coffee making facility and a TV. The room was also brightly lit with at least 6 light bulbs. Reading lights are fitted next to your bed. All rooms are en-suite and the bathroom door is nicely hidden, just like a wardrobe door. There is a safe in your room too.

Our room looks out to the streets. There was no noise coming from the streets at night so we could sleep well. Restrictions are fitted to the window.

Towels are changed daily. There was a day when we went back to our room during lunch hour before they could make our room. The cleaner came and asked politely if we require them to make our room as they do not want to disturb us when we are around. If we do not require it, then she will only change fresh towels for us. Customer service is excellent and customers always come first in their mind.

Breakfast is buffet continental. The breakfast room is small and you might have to share a table with others but this wasn't a problem.

Everytime we come back to the hotel to collect our room key, the hotel staff would chat with us about our day and offer us advice on where to visit. They have also been very helpful with transportation tips etc. They even offered us drinks a few times and this adds to the warmth of the hotel.

On the day of checkout, we left our luggage in our room and they brought them to the free luggage room for us.

I am sure you can get cheaper rates for other hotels located on the same street but for the same hospitality and service I am not sure if other hotels can match it (especially the willingness of the staff to carry your suitcases, no matter how heavy, all the way from the bottom of the stairs to your room upon arrival and upon checkout). I will definitely stay here again the next time I visit Amsterdam. The friendly and helpful hotel team has made my Amsterdam trip memorable.
