With membership comes some discounts, nothing special - with my Australian Youth Hostel membership I get discounted travel insurance and in Canada get discounted entry to a few attractions, not much but it all helps. There are also family membership rates and you can even pay for hostel membership with your tesco points. You can also join at the hostel in Canada for $35 Canadian.
