Lions in the city

Advantages: Lots to do
Disadvantages: Can be exensive

...of Kenya...

Nairobi is a huge city - I know this to be true having walked backwards and forwards across it on various errands relating to work and it is fairly easy to find your way around.

Served by two airports: Jomo Kenyatta International (about 20 mins. drive away and a taxi will set you back about £25.00) and the much smaller Wilson airport just outside town which serves internal destinations such as Mombassa and ...
...to do in and around Nairobi so it is good to spend a few days there to get the most out of the experience. The best way to get around all the various tourist places is by taxi and taxis are fantastic. They are not hailed on the streets as here in England but are found in ranks outside hotels. It is important to notice though that before getting into a taxi you will need to make a price for the journey(s) you are going to be making. If you like to ... more

...call, but the Telephone in Nairobi was out of work. Now I don´t need the help from this man anymore and I told him, he can go. I give him some small money and he go. Now I was dusty and this airport have only one small Kiosk. I go there and I ask for a Tusker – Beer. The owner from this Kiosk come and he looked me like he never have seen the White man before. I am to had to look, because he stand there very proud. He stand in this small Kiosk ...
...hour later I was in Nairobi and I could close my wife in my arms. We was happy, but not very long. I still smell from sweat and alcohol. We drive home, I made a shower and I sleep for some hours. Later it come a big moment for me. I meet with the mother from my wife. My heart start to run, but it was not so bad. I was very much welcome. The next day, it was Sylvester, we decided to go swimming. In Nairobi is one Hotel with the Name “Meridian” ...

Niarobi - Open your Eyes !

Advantages: Diverse city with many attractions
Disadvantages: Unhealthy for kids who live on the street

...is this really Kenya? Nairobi is an interesting city, colourful, inviting, busy, relaxing, all at once. From street traders to guys who wash your windscreen at the lights, people everywhere are on the make, and doing it well. The night life is good, and excellent restaurants can be found at every street corner. A great place for shopping is the Yaya centre, it has everything under one roof! A place I wouldnt give a miss though is the shanty towns..... ...
...plastic and cardboard. Nairobi has a massive street children problem, they are on force, and this is why Nairobi has become a regular haunt for those wishing to exploit the youngsters. The Police will take pride in hitting these children if they beg you for money, most of these kids are high from sniffing bags of glue, a way of release from their horrid existence. Programs are in place across the city to help these children, mainly funded from ...

Nairobi 2000

Advantages: Few
Disadvantages: Fear of crime

Nairobi sprawls around a fairly compact centre. Sadly, it has become a rather dangerous and decrepit place. Even near the centre of town, roads have lost their surface. The posh hotels contrast starkly with the orphans wandering round outside them sniffing petrol, and it is inadvisable to wander in town after dark - locals advise white visitors to avoid some areas, such as River Road, completely. The "Rough Guide to Kenya" is a worthwhile investment ...
...itself. Still, Nairobi has its attractions. Some interesting architecture, and the museums, although small, are worth a visit. Perhaps the best place to visit is the safari park - I can't comment on the Snake Park near the museum as the sound of it was enough to dissuade me from going. Another place to visit is the shell of the co-op building that suffered in the American Embassy bombing. This was clearly a highly significant event in Kenya, as ...

one of the best places to shop in east africa

Advantages: getting around is easy with help of matatus and theres lots to shop for
Disadvantages: fear of crime and not alot of nightlife compared to the united kingdom

nairobi is located cenrtre of kenya so getting in and out of there is a lot easy. the airport there has many good facilities comapred to the others in east africa. its easy to book a hotel as many reputated hotels allow you to book at the very moment you land. the transport to and from the hotel is provided by the hotel services. the other most important thing about the airport is that almost all aircraft companies fly to an from to many different ...

Great experience Kenya- Mombasa and Nairobi!!!!

Advantages: Great People, Great Nightlife, Great Experience!
Disadvantages: Too many things to see, short time..!!

Kenya has a lot to offer. Nairobi is the Capital city and Mombasa being the second largest town. There are very things one can experience in both cities. In Nairobi, there are a lot of entertainment spots. For example, The Carnivore bar and restaurant, (where you can taste game meat plus nightlife)or the Casablanca.. (Really nice)?or you can head off to Westland?s area where there are many clubs and it?s only five minute drive to the city centre. There are many good hotels too e.g. the holiday inn, Hilton, Panafric, Grand Regency, The intercontinental. You can get pocket friendly hotels; all you have to do is shop around. Alternatively, if you intend to stay longer you can rent a furnished apartment in areas such as Hurlingham or Westland?s. You?ll pay far much less than staying in a hotel. There is the ?Masaai market? every ...

Review of General: Kenya

The Lion lets us sleep tonight....

Advantages: Friendly service, almost flat business class seat, sensible feeding times
Disadvantages: Outdated movie system, small overhead lockers

Airlines from Africa don't exactly have a good reputation. There are certainly a lot who don't do much to help their image - irregular schedules, sullen staff, tatty planes, delays and worse. Amongst these there are a few who do seem to have a much better reputation, and one of them is Kenya Airways. "The Pride of Africa", they call themselves. They are generally well regarded, their image is friendly and they are also endorsed by a leading European airline - they are affiliated to KLM. I was looking forward to trying them out, flying from Dubai to Nairobi. Unfortunately my flight was an overnight flight - well, departing at 2.30am and arriving at around 6.30am - so I wasn't sure how much I would actually get to experience, and I really just wanted to get a good night's kip! Check In Dubai airport has a habit of announcing ...

Worth the hassle

Advantages: wildlife, scenery, people, game parks, safari
Disadvantages: danger of robbery and violence, beaches, hassle

The sense of menace was clear and tangible. We were in a taxi completing the brief journey from Malindi's tiny airport to our hotel on the east coast of Kenya. As we looked out of the car windows as we passed through a couple of villages we were eyeballed by many curious locals. I turned to Sandra, my wife, and said, "I've never been anywhere like this, this is one dangerous place." After flying from London to Nairobi - Kenya Airways seemed to have designated the whole aircraft as the smoking section - we were herded around Nairobi's not-quite-finished airport by around a dozen different airline staff, all of whom had a different idea of where our connecting flight would be leaving from. Eventually we were hustled through a hangar and ran, and I mean ran to the steps of an already revving Fokker Friendship. I enjoyed that bit really ...
