Today I want to write my first opinion for this community. I hope my broken English is not so bad, and till you have to cry. Please tell me, if is not possible to read this my story, and I run away very fast from here.
Today I want to tell you about my first holiday in Kenya. I am married whit a woman from Kenya. My wife came the first time in Summer 1999 to Germany to visit her sister. Her sister is ready many years married here in Germany. How I come to now my wife, this I want to tell you in another story.
The fist part of this story is happen in Mombasa Airport. But this was only some hours, this is why I think this my story in here in the correct kategorie.
And please donīt think this story is a sightseeing tour, it is only my adventure whit this people from Kenya.
My Adventure +++++++++++
My adventure start on 29. December 1999. I ready had packed, but only a rucksack. I had no motivation to travel whit a suitcase. If I make the same in a time like now, I am very fast in Jail, because people think I am a terrorist. And so it come, I had no problems in Munich Airport.
The only problem I had, never before I was in an aircraft.
We start one hour to late, because it was deep winter at this time in Germany. So it was a must to remove the ice from the aircraft, before we could fly. After a short intermission in Athen we was 9 oīclock on 30. December in Mombasa. Two hours to early! When I go out from the aircraft it was a feeling somebody beat me! I try not to move my body much, but it donīt help and I sweat like a pig. I go to the passport - control and outside the Airport ready wait to much people for me. Taxidriver! I had to explain everybody I donīt need a Taxi. I am only here for some hours and I fly to Nairobi. “Why you are here? What you do in Nairobi?” To much questions an till I got tired. But I wanted to be friendly and I give all a answer.
Now I had to look for the counter – service from Kenya Airways. But suddenly come one man from nowhere. He ask me, if he can help me. I was big surprised and I speak Yes to him. Now he explain everything and he show me the Check – In for Kenya Airways. On the entrance stand one Security – Man and he looked me. He start to smile because he see how much I sweat. Well, for this weather I had not the correct Clothes. He told me, I can go toilette and change my clothes. I made it and I felt me better. When I come out from the toilette this man see me again and he had to laugh at me.
Now I wanted to call my wife. This man come again an he show me the Telephones. I try to call, but the Telephone in Nairobi was out of work. Now I donīt need the help from this man anymore and I told him, he can go. I give him some small money and he go.
Now I was dusty and this airport have only one small Kiosk. I go there and I ask for a Tusker – Beer. The owner from this Kiosk come and he looked me like he never have seen the White man before. I am to had to look, because he stand there very proud. He stand in this small Kiosk whit a Smoking and Necktie. I drink one Tusker and because of this weather feel this beer very fast. I drink another one and I was ready drunken. After two hours come this security – man and told me, my flight go in 15 minutes. Oh, thank you very much, man! I almost forgot this my flight, because Tusker is nice!
I run to my flight and everybody laugh at me. I sweat an I smell from Alcohol. But no problem, now I am inside the aircraft to Nairobi, to my darling. I look for my seat number and I found it very fast. But what I see here, I could not believe. Where is this my seat? Where must be this seat, was a sign for emergency exit! Now I believe I am drunken, but what now? I ask the stewardess where I can sit now. She show me another place, because the aircraft was not full.
One hour later I was in Nairobi and I could close my wife in my arms. We was happy, but not very long. I still smell from sweat and alcohol. We drive home, I made a shower and I sleep for some hours. Later it come a big moment for me. I meet with the mother from my wife. My heart start to run, but it was not so bad. I was very much welcome.
The next day, it was Sylvester, we decided to go swimming. In Nairobi is one Hotel with the Name “Meridian” and it have on top a swimming pool. We walk to the next bus station and now I have my first experience whit the crazy Minibuses from Nairobi. The first lesson I learned very fast. Bus station is there, where was the people. If is a must, it is in the middle from crossing. But no problem, one bus come an we jump inside. But before I could sit down, the driver start to drive and I almost fall down. I heat my leg and till it come to much blood out of my toe. A little bit afraid we got to the Meridian and ask for a doctor. It come one and he make first aid for me and all was very nice. The swimming was ok, but the sun burn me so much and till I had pains on my neck. Now we had to go and buy sun creme for me.
Now come the Sylvester evening an I got more and more exited. How people In Kenya celebrate this night? Before we make party, I go with my wife in a restaurant with name “Trattoria” and we enjoy a nice meal. Later we go in a pub and I had fun like never before! Kenyans can enjoy the life, is really crazy! Kenyans can drink alcohol to much and make party. Never before I have seen like this. We got this night big drunken from this nice Tusker Beer and we walk home in a sinuous line.
Well, I was two weeks in Nairobi and I enjoy this time very much. Almost everyday I got drunken, but I have seen to much things. One thing I will never forget, we visit one of the Ghettos of Nairobi. What I have seen there it made me frustrated. So much poverty! This day I felt me bad, but what I can make alone?
I have seen the Bomas of Kenya and the National Museum an much another things. But the two weeks run to fast and I had again to say bye to my wife. On 15. January 2000 I was back in Germany and in March 2000 my wife come again to me. In April we got married and we love us and till we die.
Last year in October 2002 I was the second time in Nairobi. I love this country and till one time I like to life there whit my wife. I know is not easy, but here in Germany is very difficult for us, too. I dontīt know if you people can understand the problem here in Germany with the people who hate foreigner. Well, my wife is black and we ready had some Problems with this people.
In Kenya is this different. I got only very much friendly people and this is why I like to life there whit my wife one time. I know I was there only two times, but I ready love this country!
