...to push my thoughts onto Nakuru itself, the city of Nakuru.
Here we have a city trying to play big, in the day time, it beholds street sellers and street children alike, at night, it beholds night clubs / brothels and again, street children.
I would rather divert my thoughts onto things that matter, rather than those that dont.
There is a large community of children who live on the streets all over Kenya, ... ...living by sellinf whatever they can, including their bodies for money, and sometimes food, which is rather appauling.
My Kenyan guide explained to me that these children were unwanted by their families so ran away so they diddnt need to go to school anymore, well, it must be the childrens fault, here lies the first problem, the Kenyan Niavety, obviously this isnt the whole population.

I would rather divert my thoughts onto things that matter, rather than those that dont.
There is a large community of children who live on the streets all over Kenya, and Nakuru has its fair share. These children make a living by sellinf whatever they can, including their bodies for money, and sometimes food, which is rather appauling.

Lacking from adequate sewage disposal, the streets are littered with extrement, and the smell that accompanies it is foul. The corruption that surrounds Kenya is clear, one the one side is the wealth that affords the town mayor a large house, new cars and maids, and then on the street lies a paralised man with a facial deformity, simply rotting his existence away.
The main streets are the golden highway, you will find nice hotels, one of which had a picture of the group Earth Wind and Fire on the wall, to set the scene, the road sides are green with trees dashing all the way down.
This is because this is where the tourists go, and this is the image that the average tourist wants.
Children run everywhere, and when you stop your vehicle they all call out \"Mr Mr, you give me Shilling!\" It such a regular occurance, it almost becomes cute, but they make a tidy profit from the hearts of visitors, and even earn more than their parents would in full time employment.
As you turn off for one of the Luxurious parks, which could set you back £200 -£2000 per night, it would be apt to remember that the people who serve you earn about £2 per week, which shows the extreme profit someone is making on their behalf.
My only advice for a visitor would be to, yes, stay in the parks, and enjoy your holiday, but take time out, just for a day, to experience the back streets, visit an orphanage, and play football with the kids. Money cant buy this satisfaction.
Advantages: natural outstanding beauty Disadvantages: heat!! and flies
...just great!! I went to Nakuru which is I think the 4th biggest city in Kenya. The National park was massive and you could not compare it to going to a zoo. I saw many different wild animals such as lions and small cubs, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and many more. I took many priceless pictures and the scenery was breathtaking. This was my first time to see these animals in their natural habitat and it was one of those moments that you will never forget. ... ...away now. in Nakuru there are many shops where you can purchase ornaments and goods at very good prices. most people speak good english not fluent though, speking slowly helps them to understand your needs even better. Overall if you’re wishing to visit Kenya then I advise you to go to Nakuru, its awesome I guarantee you will enjoy it. Any questions please ask. Thanks ...

...Kenyan.
I have been to nakuru several times. Its a small city...nothing really to do there. There is Nakuru National Park there. I went camping there with some friends. Advice is don't mess around with the baboons in the park. They ripped off my tent, scratched my car and were almost ready to bite me. This was all because of them seeing the food we had. So don't leave your food outside for them to see it. Always pack it and put it back into your ...

Advantages: MAGNIFICENT SIGHTS Disadvantages: THE FLIES!!
WE ARRIVED A LITTLE HOT BUT EXCITED AT THE LAKESIDE AND OUR GUIDE POINTED OUT THE EXPANSE OF PINK WATER. IT TOOK A WHILE FOR US TO REALISE THAT THEY WERE, IN FACT FLAMINGOES; THEY ROSE EN MASSE AND THE SOUNDS OF THEIR WINGS BEATING SOUNDED RATHER LIKE THE BLADES OF A HELICOPTER!! SURROUNDED BY BREATHTAKING SCENERY, THIS IS A PLACE ME AND MY FAMILY WOULD CERTAINLY TRAVEL TO AGAIN FOR A LITTLE PIECE OF ORNITHOLOGICAL HEAVEN. IT WAS REASONABLY PRICED, ... ...STILLNESS AND COLOURS OF THE SCENERY WERE INCREDIBLE.
IF YOU NEVER DO ANYTHING ELSE IN YOUR LIFE, GO HERE AND CELEBRATE THE JOY AND DIVERSITY OF UNSPOILT NATURE IN ALL ITS GLORY.
MY ELDEST SON WAS ONLY EIGHT YEARS OLD AT THE TIME AND HE STILL TALKS ABOUT THE MAGIC OF IT THIRTEEN YEARS LATER!! ...

Advantages: Flamingoes, Spotting Leopards, Lions, Rhino Disadvantages: No elephants, small park
I used to live in Kenya, about 50km away from the town of Nakuru. A regular activity for myself and the family would be to visit Lake Nakuru National Park every Wednesday afternoon. Having lived in Kenya, I had the chance to visit so many different game parks, however Nakuru has always been a firm favourite of mine.
The park is set around Lake Nakuru, and so provides the perfect setting for any visitor to enjoy their game drive. The Park is very easy to drive around, so driving yourself is not a problem. The Lake is famous for its huge attraction of flamingoes (sometimes seen in their millions) throughout the year, which adds to the beauty of the landscape.
During your drive you are likely to see an extensive variety of animals and bird life. The park is home to 4 of the big 5 with the park being too small to hold elephant ...
Advantages: ? Disadvantages: expense, unethical company
I've had experience with two projects in Kenya- the 'building homes' and 'community work' in Nakuru.
Unfortunately i-to-i are not interested in actually doing something ethical for these communities, but making money out of the desire for good-willed people to help others. I am not one for complaining but I feel that i-to-i's failure to be ethical should be documented. None of the massive cost that is paid to do projects go to the placements and although this was made clear to us (after booking) before we went, I am still not satisfied with the explanation of where the fees went.
If you are thinking of booking though STA Travel, don't. They will say anything to get a sale, including a whole speal about how the fees DO go to your project, how insurance IS included (it's not anymore- i-to-i withdrew it and put the prices up so we ...
