...subject now.
Namur is in Belgium, I bet you all know where Belgium is. So I won't explain you how to get in Belgium.
Namur is the headcity of Wallonia ( Belgium is dived in two main areas, Flandria and Wallonia, In Wallonia we speak french and in Flandria, they speak Dutch ).
The first thing you notice when ariving in Namur, is its castle, on top of the city, dominating it. That's really a good place to ... ...Namur. You must know that Namur is a really old town, it appeared 10 centuries ago approximatively. So in the center, there is some old houses and "buildings". In this part of the town, you could of course admire the street and the style of the buildings but you can also shop. Yes, Namur is nice for shopping, there are lot of commercial streets where you can find nearly all that you wish.

Okay just go on with the real subject now.

The first thing you notice when ariving in Namur, is its castle, on top of the city, dominating it. That's really a good place to visit, cause thats full of nice history facts. More there is a little perfume enterprise quite famous, its name is "Guy Delforges". You may also visit it. Around the castle, you may wander during hours among nice and old trees but also some lovely place where ou will be able to get a spectacular view on the whole city.
Than it is time to visit the heart of Namur. You must know that Namur is a really old town, it appeared 10 centuries ago approximatively. So in the center, there is some old houses and "buildings". In this part of the town, you could of course admire the street and the style of the buildings but you can also shop. If you want to have a break, you will be able to have drink in any of the numerous "pub" available, mainly in the medieval part of the city.
Of course, I can't really speak of the hotels as I don't feel concerned by them and won't use hem normally.
There are lots of good restaurant of all kinds, Italians, Asians, French and of course Belgian ones.
Of course as in all trip, it is better, in my opinion, to come here during summer. Cause as you all know, weather in belgium is not so nice that we could hope. So ... just during summer, that's not so bad I will say even if it could be better most of the time !
If you plan to have a trip in here, don't hesitate to drop me a message on Ciao and we could see together if ou are interested in meeting me and have a free guide for the day ;)
Advantages: small city Disadvantages: small city; full of EU & corporate types
"Nice" city; rather vanilla in flavour. Suggest that stay for no more than 2 days. Spend one day in the centre - grand place good but rather expensive - worth a visit in mid August to see the flower display in the Grand Place (every other year - next one 2002); get there the first couple of days otherwise the flowers start wilting.
Mannequin Pis a complete waste of time. Other places of interest: Palais du Justice, Africa Museum (Tervuren), Nepoleon's last HQ (Waterloo). Foret de Soignes is good place for a walk in the summer - don't forget the blue bell forest.
Much nicer places to visit around Belgium - Bruges, Ardennes, Liege, Namur.... ...
Advantages: Enjoy a coffee break instead of paying autoroute tolls Disadvantages: none
While living in Brussels I decided to visit friends in Stuttgart. So I planned my route to avoid the French autoroute tolls and instead of going to Saarbrücken via Metz I decided to go through Luxembourg.
Just before the Belgian/Luxembourg border is the Belgian town of Arlon. This is a great place to visit, as it is the site of a Roman fort town. If you are travelling from Brussels by car: follow the E411 to Namur and Luxembourg. Take the exit to Arlon before reaching the border with the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg.
Luxembourg has borders with France, Belgium and Germany this gives rise to the diverse languages that are spoken and understood here including English. Somewhat forgotten is the Luxemburgians own language ?Letzenburgese? a Germanic-based language but hey so is English! There are words from French and German as well as ...
