Southern Italy has to be the most beautiful place in the world. I travelled to Naples and my journey ended in Sorrento, about 40 km away from the airport. During my stay in Sorrento, I visited many places which, if you intend to travel to the southern most part of Italy, I would definately recommend taking a day trip to the following places. The Amalfi coast is renowned for being one of the most beautiful in Italy. Long winding roads around the stunning scenery and views of the deep blue sea and cliff tops. Also, the isle of Capri. Not recommended that you take a credit card with you, as the shops seem to be expensive! However, again the scenery is outstandingly beautiful and despite the designer shops, Capri, as Sorrento and many other places on the southern part of Italy, still remains that of traditional. The simplicity of Italy maintains the relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. Pompei is too worth a visit. However, to make the most of this outstanding place, I would recommend you go with a tour guide where information can be given to you whilst you see the main sites of the old village. The artichure and artifacts are amazingly well preserved. Here is the history lesson of your holiday - but it is really interesting and there are plenty of cheap places to eat if you make a day of it too. I think this type of holiday is suitable for almost everyone. If you like hot weather, english speaking, excellent food through-out and a vast range of activities and places to visit, then this is the place for you. Also, it's only 3hours on the plane to get there. In conclusion, I would recommend this holiday as an exciting alternative to the usual Spain or France. I reckon you'll be back there for more...

Advantages: Its location is so close to Sorrento which is situated on a beautiful bay which is said to be the home of the sirens who called sailors to their deaths. Disadvantages: Rather hot for trekking around.
