It would seem to me that the previous 24 reviewers must have been visiting Naples, Florida as their experiences do not reflect the reality of what has to be Europe's filthiest, most crime-ridden and profoundly disgusting metropolitan area. Sure, it's filled with archeological wonders but they are kept in crumbling conditions, covered in filth, canine and human excrement, and bear admission costs that are nothing short of usurious. $35 for a couple to walk around a few blocks of Herculaneum without as much as a water fountain or a toilet? Give your head a shake. The city is completely lethal as if the crazy drivers won't get you, the muggers or the air pollution will: The preferred mode of knocking down the 10 foot high hills of garbage that line most city streets is to burn them... so breathe deep and let all those lovely dioxins permeate your lungs. Just in case anyone wishes to paint me as a tourist knee-jerk pessimist, I happen to have spent well over two years in Naples and my experiences with the area and its inhabitants are of far greater depth than someone passing through on a tourbus. The best thing that can be done with Naples is to avoid it at all costs!

Having been a resident there you obviously saw the real Naples and not the one all the tourist see. I'm sure there must be some good points you could put forward to make it a more balanced review though. Interesting review, I find the high admission price for Herculinium strange, suggest you visit Ostia Antica (See my review) near Rome for a Cheap excellent view of an Ancient Roman Town. Regards Steve.

Advantages: Its location is so close to Sorrento which is situated on a beautiful bay which is said to be the home of the sirens who called sailors to their deaths. Disadvantages: Rather hot for trekking around.
