Bahamian Rhapsody

Advantages: Beautiful place, friendly people, gorgeous weather
Disadvantages: Long flight to get there.

...also built a bridge connecting Nassau to Paradise Island.

In 1973 Britain granted the Bahamas independence which is hugely celebrated. This ended 325 years of British rule. They still remain part of the Commonwealth and have kept some British systems such judiciary and the government.

***HOW TO GET THERE***

The Bahamas are over 4000 miles from the UK so as you can imagine it's a long flight. ...
...likely have to fly to Nassau and then have another flight to the island or a boat trip.

***CLIMATE***

The temperature stays more or less the same all year round. In the summer the temperature ranges from 80 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit and in the winter a cooler (!) 70 to 80 degrees. It's worth pointing out that from June to November its hurricane season. We went in mid November so this was at the end of the hurricane ... more

Flamboyant Nassau - Bahamas

Advantages: Paradise Island
Disadvantages: Staying Too Long

...Walking on the outskirts of Nassau I heard a jazz band, curious I turned round and saw people wearing bright colours, singing and dancing : - Festival ? Celebration of some kind? No a Funeral! Nassau is over 4000 miles from the UK. Flight from London will take approx. 9 hours to reach Nassau's International Airport. Bahama Mama

Advantages: beautiful place, good food
Disadvantages: not enough to do, expensive

...We stayed at the Nassau Beach Hotel which is more of a "basic" hotel so they called it - but I thought it was more like 4 star. First of was to hit the beaches and I was amazed. This hotel has its own private beach - aaah lovely, I thought. Peace and quiet. Not a chance - within 2 minutes of settling down a lady came up "Hey lady you want your hair braided?". Little did I know this was going to happen at least 5 times while I was on the beach!!! ...
...can't say I was that impressed. Apart from the few usual tacky tourist shops all the others seemed to be in the high roller range - Gucci, Chanel, etc. OK I knew the Bahamas would be a little expensive but was disappointed on the range of more affordable shops. Down in the harbour was a lovely site - all the cruise shops lined up very elegantly. A short walk through the Straw Market to view them closer - and yet more haggling from stall holders. ...

Paradise Island Hotel Nassua, Bahamas

Advantages: fantastic place to go
Disadvantages: none

I was lucky enough to go to the Bahamas on holiday in April 2008. In our party there were 3 children and 3 adults. We arrived at the airport to be met by a limousine, we were driven to The Atlantis hotel on Paradise Island…wow what a place. We were able to have a good look round whilst in the Limo, the weather was beautiful and when we arrived at the Hotel, you could see why it was called Paradise!! The hotel was enormous; it had lots of different ...
...Beach Towers, The Cove Atlantis, The Reef Atlantis, Harbour side Resort, and Special. We stayed in the Coral towers. Our room was large with 2 double beds in. It had a full stocked bar, which was checked daily and re-stocked…..beware, very expensive! There was a large mirrored wardrobe and plenty of drawer space. There was a large TV in the room, but to be honest, with so much to do at the hotel, we never put the TV on. Every day the maids left ...

Dirty old Nassau

Advantages: Cheap booze and jewelery
Disadvantages: Dirty, polluted, old, pushy merchants

The name Nassau conjures up images of swaying palms, white sand, a gentle surf and a light sweet breeze. Maybe it was once like that. Today though, the reality is more like crumbling concrete, loud cars, rude panhandlers, and the sweet smell of carbon monoxide. Admittedly, it isn't all like that. Paradise Island, and Cable Beach are both attractive resort areas kept in a fairly natural state. Actually, Paradise Island's Atlantis Resort is stunning ...
...deals). But shopping in Nassau is a lot like shopping anywhere else - you can't even see the water or a single palm tree! I have visited Nassau dozens of times as a Crew Member on a cruise ship, and I can tell you that most of our guests rate it as the worst part of the cruise. Avoid it if you can. If you can't - visit Atlantis (take a taxi), and do a bit of shopping, then head back to the ship. ...

Great place

Advantages: The atractions
Disadvantages: You will be mad when it's time to leave

The Bahamas is incredible. In the Bahamas there is a street parade with music called "Junkanoo", it is usually on december on the 26 and January the first. In the Bahamas, Cricket is the national sport of the Bahamas. Basketball and Football is not that popular in the Bahamas. In the Bahamas most people eat Conch fritters, grouper chowder, johnny cakes. In the Bahamas Conch is a hugely popular food. There are very beautiful beaches that is called, "Club Med Beach", "Lee Shore Beach". There is an casino called "Atlantis Paradise Island". The Atlantis is a large resort and casino located on Paradise island in Nassau, Bahamas. The Bahamas has many attractions so you will have a great time and the people are very friendly and caring. ...

BEAWARE- ALAMO NASSAU

Advantages: cheap price
Disadvantages: horrible customer service, trying to rip off

BE AWARE- ALAMO RENTAL CAR IN NASSAU, BAHAMAS We rented an economy car for our vacation and paid for Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) daily. On the last day of our trip in the parking lot we found minor scratched on the bumper. (people literally drive like crap out there). When we return the car, the lady was yelling at us about the scratches, and saying she was going to charge us for the damage. We told her that since we paid for CDW, it should be covered. She then asked our fax number and saying if anything she will fax us. 2 months later 200$ was taken out from our credit card without any notice. We never received any faxes or phone calls. We complained to Alamo international and they just told us "There is nothing we could do since it is outside of the States"... ...

Review of Alamo Rent A Car

Brirish Airways, catalogue of errors

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Expensive, Money orientated, indifferent to customer focus or welfare

1)Six moths ago, my parents were due to fly out from Heathrow to visit me in the Cayman Islands, BA then diverted the flight to Nassau in the Bahamas saying they had a 'shortage of aircraft' and dumped my elderly parents there, refusing to assist with finding a hotel, or onward journey, saying that they could complete the journey to Grand Cayman on the next BA Flight, four days later (They were only due to stay for ten, so with travelling time this was effectively half of the holiday). When my mum (By this time reduced to tears) asked for advice or assistance she was told by BA staff, they couldn't assist as their office was just closing for the night. My parents had to pay to fly with American Airlines to complete a journey they had already paid BA for. BA initially stated they didn't have to pay any compensation as my parents had ...
