In September 02 me and my now husband Nick went on holiday to the Bahamas to get married. We went for two weeks for fun in the sun, and thats exactley what we got. The hotel we stayed at was fantastic!
Our hotel was SUPERCLUB BREEZES on Cable Beach. It was situated right on the beach (which was private) but the main road right outside took you straight into nassau - there was a bus literally ever minute and it was onle $1 flat fare!
This hotel had everything you would want to do - that you could do - all in an extremely relaxed and friendly atmosphere! These included:
Basketball Volleyball Water Volleyball Tennis Rockclimbing Trapeze Trampolining Bike rides Pool Board games Windsurfing Kayaking Sailing Motorised sports
(these were not included in holiday package) 2 Pools - and a Jacuzzi also (including poolside bar) Plus; daily and nightly entertainment eg/ bingo, quizzes etc
When we arrived at the Hotel and when we were checking in, one of the girls that worked there bought us over a drink as a welcoming gift (and being British that's a great start to your holiday!) I knew then that it was going to be a holiday I'll never forget!
The hotel was all inclusive so all the drinks and food were free (which was great!) There were 2 restuarants you could dine in as well as the main dining room which served all your main meals. The Pastafari was a quaint little Italian (with a Bahamas twist) - and then there was the Garden of Eden, which served an al-a-carte menu and was very romantic, with both secluded seating indoors and open seating outside. What really made the Garden of Eden special though was the guitarist serenading you as you ate.
Then you had the bars. There was the main entertainment lounge where the best hotel band I've ever seen performed 5 nights a week (Funky D and the Sunshine Band - they got everyone involved!) But if you just wanted a quite drink in the evening then the Piano Lounge would be your best bet. Everynight there would be a Pianist or Guitarist playing in the background until the Sing-along started (once everyone was drunk of course). A great place to be for a romantic drink, as it is all in candle light with comfy chairs and sofa's. There is of course a poolside bar (which is great if youre having a swim and don't fancy getting out to get a drink) and a nightclub if you're feeling energetic!
Not only were the staff the nicest bunch of people who entertained you all day long (and they made an effort to remember your name - one of the guys there kept calling my Harry Potter girl as he reckoned I looked like her, I don't see it myself), but the locals were helpful and friendly too. Just walking through downtown Nassua we were stopped several times to be asked if we were enjoying our holiday - this by people who lived there and not the Reps!!
Nassua itself is what you expect of the Bahamas. Very friendly locals who are extremely friendly, quiant little streets with a mix of both American/British and Carribbean architecture and culture, and beautiful views filled with palm trees, golden sands and the bluest sea.
With being in such a great resort we didn't really have much call to go out doors. Saying that though we did venture out a few times. I found that there was one main street to Nassua with lots of streets venturing off. We had a wander down to the docks (in the town center itself) to see the big cruise liners and there were plenty of internet cafes so you could keep in touch with your family back home. There were some very expensive and luxurious shops (most with air conditioning), but then some that were there purely for the tourist aspect, which sold cheap tacky stuff. I did however find a KFC, McDonalds, Subway and they were building a Planet Hollywood - so it's not all bad!
You had a great choice of excusions to choose from too. We decided to swim with dolphins as its always been something i've wanted to do, and we swam exactley where they made 'Flipper'. It was fantastic and the dolphins really wanted to make you happy. We also did a 'Booze Cruize' which included our dinner, snorlking for about 45 minutes and all the drinks we could handle. Us, being British, decided that after the snorkeling we'd get our $50 worth and prop up the bar. I don't remember much after that... lol.
No-one made us feel umwelcome or a burden of any kind and it was a re-freshing change to be met with such courteous and polite locals. Nothing was too much for them.
The wedding itself was picturesue. Set on the beach we had a wonderful seaview, with the reception just off to the side.
Little touches helped to make the big day special, like swans made from towels placed on the bed when we got back up to our room, the cake and a bottle of bubbly sent up, and not to mention the 'Just Married' T-shirts!!!
Its a fantastic hotel, a friendly old town, and a beautiful island. I would love to live out there and open an English Cafe, drink Bahama Mamas all day, and swim with dolphins every weekend. But, we can't all live our dreams... unfortunatley.
