My company is renting all their cars through National Car Rental. And recently I made use of them quite frequently, so I thought, I tell you about them.
They offer a very good booking service. We for example have an online booking system integrated in our Intranet - you simply fill in the data, get approval by your manager and usually 1 hour later, get the booking details emailed to you by National Car Rental.
One option they offer is very useful for me. You don't actually have to go and pick up your car at a branch - even though they have a very good nationwide coverage. You can get them to deliver your car directly to your office or home. I tend to book my car for rather early in the morning and until now, they always delivered it the evening before - which really gives me peace of mind to make it in time for my meetings. They simply drop the key and the rental papers trough your letterbox.
The pickup of the car should be easy as well. They come to your pick up point (e.g. your home) and check if the car is without damage and filled with petrol, you give them the key and off they go. My only "problem" I have with this service, is that they never seem to come to pick up your car. The other day it took them 2 days to collect my rental car. That is a bit annoying for me, as we only have 2 parking spaces at our house and need to drive the rental car up and down the drive in order to be able to leave the house with our car. And obviously the car isn't insured for me to drive it after the agreed rental time. Also, my company has a policy, that you are not allowed to leave the key somewhere for them (e.g. under the front wheel), but have to hand it over in person. As I hardly can stay away for 2 days from work to wait for them and they can't tell you when they'll come, I'll have to do that anyway… on my own risk. That's clearly something, they could improve their service with!
But apart from that, the service is great. Once my meeting went far longer than expected and I extended the rental time with a short phone call and without problems.
I can't tell you about the prices as they are not know to me, but as far as I am aware, they are quite comparable.
The cars tend to be very new (up to 15,000 miles) and very good maintained and clean. I have no option to which car to use due to our business policy and always receive a car group C. Until now I always had a Vauxhall Astra 1.4 either manual or automatic with less than 5,000 miles. The car is always filled with petrol to the max and that's the way they expect it back.
National Car Rental is really worthwhile getting a price offer from when you need a car. They are flexible and provide a really good service.
