National Hotel, Zermatt

Advantages: Great hotel, great location
Disadvantages: Not that cheap...

...We stayed at The National Hotel for a few days last summer, on Collins Avenue, one block from Ocean Drive in the heart of Miami's Art Deco Historical District. Built in 1939, the 13-story National Hotel lobby contains original period antiques and richly designed wood furnishings. It was restored in 1997 to showcase the original Art Deco details (the concierge desk is a precise replica of the original from 1939 !), this hotel is a visual delight for Art Deco fans ! It's not a massive hotel (unlike the Loew's just a block down the street), but then most of the South Beach / Ocean Drive hotels are acutally pretty small affairs... ...We stayed at the National Hotel in Moscow last August (03) for 3 nights. This hotel has to be one of the best hotels in Moscow. It is centrally located, overlooking the Kremlin and is easy to find if you are unlucky enough to have to drive there yourself. I would recommend you use a taxi is possible as the cars in Moscow don't know about speed limits or safe distances. The Hotel reception personnel all spoke excellent English and we had no difficulty being understood. Foreign currenty conversion was also easy using the desk in the hotel who were happy to give Americal dollars or Russian rubels. Our room was okay, but then again we were not paying much compared to the best rooms. Each evening the beds were prepared for us and a chocolate mint left! We used the conservatory snack bar just beyond reception a few times and found... Read review

...“Zermatt is a place all skiers must go to before they die” Well, the guide books that state that are spot on. It’s that time of year again, when keen skiers & boarders start to think about their next winter holiday, and where it should be this year. Well, if you haven’t tried Zermatt, Switzerland, then this resort should be near the top of your list. It’s simply excellent. I have been there several times, and love it. There’s a charm, a magic that runs through the lively and attractive village. The lifts are fast and efficient and the runs which take you through stunning scenery, seem to always be in excellent condition. Zermatts height affords the resort a fantastic snow record with skiing from early on in the season till mid April. The resort has three main mountains. Rothorn, Gornergrat and Klein Matterhorn.
