I did it! I did it! I found Nemo!!!

Advantages: Too many to list !
Disadvantages: None (unless you hate fish)

...just any aquarium, no the National Marine Aquarium.
I remember a few years ago, I used to do a lot of work in Plymouth, and one of the places I used to go was the Aquarium, which used to be up near the Hoe, in the Citadel. Well it’s not there anymore. They got some serious funding, and had a purpose built Aquarium and research facility right on the water.

There's something fishy in the air.....

Advantages: A wide variety of things to do and see.
Disadvantages: Not a lot for younger children.

The National Marine Aquarium, based in Plymouth's historic Barbican is a must-see for everybody whether you have a deep and devoted interest in sealife or just want something to do. The price is quite high (around £6 - £8 at least), but all of the money raised does go back into funding the work that goes on. You can see big fish, small fidh - and sharks that swim all around you when you are stood in a special enclosed tank. This is the largest in ...
...around, but anyway it's some size!). There are lots of opportunities for 'interactions', where you can test your knowledge through games and quizzes en route. There is a good education programme, and they try to get schools involved as much as possible. There is disabled access throughout 99% of the site, and apart from one or two exhibits can be viewed by all. This may not appeal to those who have got small children, as there is a lot of walking ...

Plymouth marine aquarium

Advantages: unusual and innovative display
Disadvantages: expensive and not much for tots

We went to the marine aquariam with my son who is three in order to amuse him for the day. we had hoped it would take the whole day as the entrance was so expensive. It is a vast place but there really isn't much for tots. there are places for them to stand so that they can see into the aqariums but not a lot else. Loads for above age 5 ish so I highly recommend it for anyone with older children and a lottery win to afford the entrance. I understand ...
...wages etc but for a family on a relitively budget holiday, it's too much - and I only have the one child! If I remember rightly it was about £10 each. The cafe nearby was very expensive and there wasn't anywhere else very close to eat. Parking was ludicrously highly priced and there is no free parking available close by. A fantastic magical place to go if you are prepared for the cost and don't have a toddler! There are loads of things for older ...

Fantastic Fishy Fun

Advantages: Fantastic day out
Disadvantages: Can be difficult to find, not all exhibits translated into English

tour of Brest town centre, we made our way down to the end of a long road et voila! ENTRANCE FEES At 15 euros (about £10.50) an adult, 10.50 (about £7) for a child, this is more expensive than the National Marine Aquarium at Plymouth but it is certainly worth the money. We passed a very interesting four hours there, and would certainly have spent the rest of the day had we not needed to get back to meet the landlady for our holiday home. Parking is easy and plentiful. THE ATTRACTIONS The site is divided into 3 zones, polar, tropical and temperate. You can visit them in any order you like. Everything is well presented and thought out. There are many tanks and when we went (Saturday morning) it was easy to see everything. Although there is a fairly good smattering of English translations, plenty of exhibits are only in French. My ...

A very relaxing holiday..... even with kids!

Advantages: Peaceful, tranquil & wonderful views & surroundings, even if you don't play golf!
Disadvantages: Maybe unsuitable for wheelchairs and the infirm because of steep steps to the property.

Plymouth (12 miles - £1.00 toll payable one way on the Tamar Bridge over the River Tamar into Plymouth) while we're here. At the moment, our five year old is 'Finding Nemo' mad and loves the 'National Marine Aquarium' situated in Plymouth dockyard. We've visited both times and it's a fabulous place to visit (£8.75 for adults, £5.25 for children over 4, under 4's are free. For more info visit: www.national-aquarium.co.uk). Great for those not-so-sunny days too! We also went to beaches such as Looe (about 20/25 mins away), Seaton (on the way back from Looe), Bude (approx. 35 mins) and wonderful white sandy Newquay (around an hour away) with it's Aquarium and Zoo, as well as a million other things to do, whatever the weather. We love the 'old favourite' - visited many times and still love going to - 'Teignmouth' (40 mins away). Polperro is well ...

Plymouth

Advantages: Sea and country not far apart
Disadvantages: Old city miles from the rest of UK

of small clubs. The main night life is centred at the bottom of town at union street, a half mile stretch of big clubs and fun bars. It is bright its noisy and it is busy. Thousands flock here each weekend to experience it. What Plymouth cannot get away from is come 2am this area is full of drunken louts, male and female. All walking in the road or throwing up. There is always a heavy police prescence more so when a naval boat has docked. TOURISM Plymouths history is its main pull for tourists. That and the barbican and plymouth hoe, both on the sea front. They are full of statues, plaques etc commerating history. The National Marine Aquaruim is on the barbican, a huge aquarium that boasts one of the largest single tanks in europe with a collection of sharks. The jewel of plymouth though is it is home to the National Firework Competition ...
