Stately Homes and Beautiful Gardens.

Advantages: `Free entry` to lots of lovely places.
Disadvantages: None.

What made me join the National Trust? Well one night at work my friend was talking about her membership and how great it was and how her and her family had gained so much from it. She explained to me that the even after visiting only a few of the properties, she would have spent over what the family membership had cost her. That was me inspired so I went home and immediately joined on line. When I informed her that I had been awarded 3 months free ...
...You can join at a National Trust property when you are visiting and gain free entry there and then if you have not joined previously. I joined on line and am always looking on line which has lots of information worth looking at with activities in your area (or a different area if you are visiting somewhere).

The website is www.nationaltrust.org and I would encourage anyone to look there.

...for some kind of annual National Trust Membership years ago when visiting a Scottish property - Culzean Castle. When visiting a National Trust property you are offered the opportunity to sign up to an annual membership, and will get any entry fees refunded for the day. Members of the National Trust for Scotland do qualify for free admittance to the National Trust properties in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the annual fee is marginally less, ...
...question there will be many National Trust properties near enough to everyone. The National Trust states that they... "care for 28 castles, 215 houses and gardens, 150 museums, 127 factories and mines, 57 villages, 47 dovecotes, 25 medieval barns, 78 mills, 19 pubs, 12 lighthouses, 31 nature reserves, 704 miles of coastline and 600,000 acres of countryside" - there is enough for a few years membership there. In my own area I have already visited ...

A free day out?

Advantages: Get to visit many different places without having to pay
Disadvantages: closed November to March

...we'd often pop into a National Trust property for a look round as my parent, despite not being the wealthiest of parents, had a family membership. Fast forward 7 or so years when I was training to be a teacher in North Yorkshire, my friend and I decided to get a membership as we could get a Young Person's membership for 13 to 25 year olds which was considerably less than a regular individual pass. As we lived very close to one of the largest National ...
...saving money, joining the Scottish National Trust (www.nts.org.uk) you can still gain free access to all the 'National Trust' properties in England and Wales. You can currently save £3.50 on an Individual Member subscription and £13 for a family. The thing you do miss out with this though is that you do not get the 'National Trust' members handbook which has all the property details in although this can be purchased in the shops for £8.99 (not worth ...

National trust membership - a great investment

Advantages: cheap days out once a member, enjoyable and educational at the same time
Disadvantages: locations often mean a car is needed

...made is membership of the National Trust. What is it? The National Trust is a charity that acts to preserve a range of buildings and environments, ranging from stately homes to mills, coastline to hills, for future generations to learn from and enjoy. How much does it cost? Membership for a year costs less if you pay by direct debit, with the current direct debit prices being just £35.63 for one adult, £59.63 for 2 adults or £61.50 for a family. ...
...whole years membership of the National Trust! So what do I get for my money? As a member you get a flimsy cardboard members card, a car sticker, the handbook of places you can visit and a magazine every 4 months. The big selling point is of course all the places it entitles you to visit. Recently we've taken to planning our holidays around which National Trust properties we can visit, initially as a money-saving plan but now because we've enjoyed ...

Great Value Days out

Advantages: Great Value
Disadvantages: None

...always thought about joining the National Trust but never got round to it. As we are holidaying at home this year, we were trying to find places to take the children to, which were not going to break the bank in the process. We have some lovely National trust places nearby but family tickets are usually around £26.50 each visit, which has always put us off. However, we went onto the National Trust Web Site and looked up membership costs. There is ...
...was really useful and the National Trust prefer this method of payment as it saves them money in the long term. Within about 10 minutes we were members and had received a confirmation e-mail. As the full membership pack can take up to four weeks to arrive, the e-mail includes a temporary pass which allows you start visiting National Trust properties and places straight away You just need to print it out and show it on entry. To our surprise, we ...

National trust annual membership ( amazing)

Advantages: So many wonderful places to visit
Disadvantages: There isnt really anything, maybe if it rains it isnt as good sometimes.

...a family membership for the national trust. We used to have an english heritage membership but we switched to the national trust when i was about 6 and we are still with it now. So with the membership you get free access to most national trust places. They are listed in the handbook you are given and on the internet. The handbook is great, it shows you exactly what places they are to visit and where they are on the map. It also syas the facilities ...

This shows the wide range of age groups that the national trust appeal to, the old the young and the in-betweeny's. You also get two newsletters a year to keep you informed on whats going on. You also get a car sticker to show when parking, it looks good and helps to advertise the national trust, gaining them more members and ...

Sail across the Estuary to the Peaked Island

Advantages: Picturesque
Disadvantages: Some may find it a little quiet

the car will set you back approximately £60 or so. If you go in summer, or on a public holiday, there will be large queues for boarding the last ferry back to the mainland, so make sure you arrive back to the terminal early, unless you don?t mind sleeping on the beach. Brodick --------- This is the main town on the Island and where the ferry lands. You can get about relatively easy on foot, although it will be about 2-3 miles walk to the Castle and Gardens, and further still to the point at Goat fell if you plan to make the ascent. The Castle itself dates back to the 13th century and it has great setting, with Goat fell as its backdrop. The property is a National Trust Scotland property, and if you have annual membership, then you save the £7 entry fee. The Gardens include a walled and woodland garden, and are internationally ...

Culloden Battlefield

Advantages: Interesting from a historical perspective
Disadvantages: Ovepriced

marked the end of a long campaign to restore a Stuart king (Bonnie Prince Charlie) to the British throne. Defeated by the Duke of Cumberland and his Government forces at the Battle of Culloden the Jacobites, led by the Bonnie Prince, were to give up the fight for their cause and Governmental authority was restored to the nation. Cost The visitor centre and battlefield cost £10 for an adult to visit. Now, I might be a cheapskate but to me, that's pretty expensive, although there are some good deals available for families and larger groups. Parking at the centre costs £2, which seems a bit steep as parking isn't exactly restricted in remote parts of the Highlands. If you are a member of the National Trust for Scotland (for which annual membership costs £33) then you get in free. In a state of shock from the amount I had just had to ...

A good day out

Advantages: Cheap after initial membership fee, varied, fun, educational
Disadvantages: Popular places can be crowded

If you would like to have many enjoyable, educational and different days out, and almost for free, have you thought about joining the National Trust? They are not completely free days out, because you have to pay your annual membership fee, and your travelling costs. However once you have paid your membership, you can then gain free entrance to literally hundreds of National Trust Properties, and you will know that your membership fee is going towards a worthwhile cause. There is another good thing, that can almost be guaranteed. Once you have finished exploring whatever the attraction happens to be, there will be an excellent café or restaurant on site. They are all quite different, but in my experience, the food is going to be really delicious. And, to me, that?s a good day out in itself! ...
