My husband and I went to Couples Negril for our honeymoon last year - we did a two resort holiday, the first week at Couples Negril and the second at Couples Ocho Rios. Of the two, we preferred Couples Negril.
This place is amazing! From the moment we got on the courtesy bus from the airport, and our leader stopped off at a petrol station to pick up some Red Stripe for everyone!, to the minute we left, we were treated like royalty. The Jamaicans are so friendly, they can't do enough for you. The standard rooms are really nice - I can only imagine how lovely the deluxe ones must be! You can see the beach from all rooms (it seemed) and most overlook the gardens/wedding gazebo. There was a king size bed, CD player, satellite TV, safe, air conditioning, clean sheets and towels every day - even towels to take to the beach, which you could exchange for fresh ones.
The beach was fantastic, just like you imagine it will be but don't really expect to see! White sand, turquoise sea which is very warm and very calm, plenty of sunloungers, complete with cushions that double up as floats! The same sunloungers/floats are round the pool, which is really nice, with two jacuzzi's and a swim up bar.
The food was delicious - from the full cooked breakfast, freshly made omelettes or fresh fruit in a morning, to the snack bar or self service restaurant at lunchtime, and to the main restaurant or Italian-style restaurant in the evening, it was all great. There was also an a la carte restaurant, but we didn't eat there. There's speciality nights on a few times a week, with barbecues or theme nights. There are 3 bars, including a piano bar that doesn't shut until the last person leaves!
There's lots of activities to do (gym, tennis, horse riding, watersports, etc), or you can just be lazy! There's entertainment on every night, but you're not forced into joining in - the beach party was a good laugh, though! Some trips are included - a sunset catamaran cruise, trip to the Pickled Parrot for cliff jumping - and others. We paid to do a trip down the Black River to see crocodiles, which was amazing. We also got a visit to the YS Falls included in that trip, which was pretty spectacular (though not as spectacular as Dunns River Falls, which we went to from Couples Ocho Rios - you can pay to visit it from Couples Negril, but its free from Ocho Rios).
All in all we had a fantastic time at Couples Negril and didn't want to leave to go to Ocho Rios. But it was an experience to fly in a 6-seater plane - just us and the pilot - over to Ocho Rios - one of the highlights of the holiday! After visiting both resorts, we would return to either of them - but mostly to Couples Negril - we're definitely going to go back again! If you choose this hotel, you will not be disappointed. It's expensive, but in our opinion, worth every penny.
Advantages: Sun, sunsets, rum, beaches Disadvantages: Hassle from vendors, not a lot of attractions
Intro
Negril is a tourist town on the NW of the island of Jamaica. Numerous hotels of all sizes and budgets are located along this, essentially one street town. You'll also find a never ending assortment of bars, cafes and restaurants, many located right on the beach.
Getting Here
Chances are if you fly into Jamaica, you'll land in Montego Bay. Negril is located about and hour and a half to the West. Your choices are transport are light aircraft, ... ...need to get around. Although Negril is reasonably compact, it stretches for some 10 miles or so from one end to the other and in the 80 - 90 degree heat you'll not be comfortable walking far. Chances are as soon as you start walking, you'll be approached by a taxi wanting to take you wherever you are going - a private cab is negotiable. Don't pay more than $10 US for any journey within Negril. You can negotiate a daily rate $50 - $70 is probably ...

...The Riu Club Hotel Negril (also refferred to as Riu Negril) is all inclusive so you don't need to worry about paying while away.
Please remember if you go to Jamaica they charge you to leave the country at the airport. The cheapest way to do this is to take Jamaican dollars. It works out about £10 stirling each. However if you pay in US dollars it equates to about £15 stirling or if you pay stirling it works out around £13. We took the Jamaican ... ...go on then....
My wife and I decided to go to Jamaica for our honeymoon, originally we were booked to another hotel and had to change late due to renovation work, but boy were we glad we changed.
On our arrival in Jamaica we were met at the airport in Montego Bay by the Thomson rep. Put into what can only be described as a "Scooby Doo" style van/people carrier along with half a dozen other people. Our cases dumped on the back seat and had a driver ...

...Then I booked transport to Negril from JUTA via their online juta.com which gave me a $5 US discount each way.
I was worried that I was going to be late getting to Heathrow airport, but when I got to the Air J desk I was the only one waiting - another great reason to fly them. (Plus none of their flights from the UK westward have been cancelled recently either!)
And imagine my smile when they announced the Champagne flight - yes! Free Champagne, ... ...hour or so ride to Negril on the NEW ROAD! Arrived at Bar-B-Barn, the funniest sounding name for an hotel but couldnt have picked a better place.
Our room was a double with two double beds, airconditioned, windows on two sides so a nice cross breeze, TV with cable (so I can get caught up on my American sitcoms whilst awaiting my turn in the shower) and plenty of closet space. We had a little balcony to sit on but why do so when the beach and the ...

...again to Negril. At Negril we were met by the hoards of taxi drivers trying to give us lifts and drug dealers tempting us with their wares (NB it is illegal to possess cannabis in Jamaica so don't get caught if you are tempted) but we knew that Couples would be providing a bus. They needn't have bothered in reality as the hotel was no more than 50 yards along the road - if only we had known.
On arriving we were again met with champagne and wet towels. ... ...immediately. Negril was far more open than OR and more bohemian in style. The tallest building is three storeys high as Negril planning regulations state that no building can be higher than the palm trees!

Sandals, the ultimate in all inclusives, Has always had a fascination for me. Right from the time I saw the first glossy adverts in the Sunday papers to now even after having spent two weeks in Sandals Negril. Right from walking into the travel agents here the whole process was very easy, except of course parting with the money. Tickets all arrived with more glossy photos within two weeks and everything had been thought of everything even down to ... ...to the plane, no problems there either. We arrived in Montego Bay and where whisked off to Negril, a pretty end of Jamaica. We were met with drinks and the formalities were dealt with quickly and we were shown to our room. The room was spacious with air conditioning mezzanine floor with a large double bed and separate lounge. We overlooked the sea and it was really beautiful. The resort had all the usual features with swimming pools, gyms 4 restaurants ...

For my 18th birthday I was presented a fantastic surprise from my wonderful boyfriend, inside my card was a picture of a beach and two tickets to Jamaica leaving four days later!!!
We flew from Manchester to Montego Bay in Jamaica which took around 9 1/2 hours. The first thing you notice is the heat, it is like stepping into an oven, the second is how laid back everyone is. Mo' Bay as it is called by the locals is the capital of Jamaican tourism. From there we drove for 2 1/2 hours to Negril where we were to stay.
During the drive, we realised what a poor country Jamaica was, we were shocked to go through the "parish's" and see shacks which were peoples homes, and beggars in the street. The Jamaica you see on the television is a far cry from the real Jamaica.

, and the public are also welcome to, but from a little bit lower! You are asked for a tip from one of the men but he would only ask once and was grateful for whatever you gave, even if it was a little bit. The sunset was very pretty and apparently meant to be one of the best places to see it whilst in Jamaica.
The people in general were very friendly, apart from a few people when we went into downtown Negril. As my boyfriend and I are young, we did actually get approached about drugs, but I have been to Jamaica two other times with my family and we've never been approached.
The sister hotel Riu Negril is just down the beach. I stayed at this hotel when I came to Negril with my family, and to be honest there wasn't much difference between them, although I think that over the summer the Riu Tropical Bay has been upgraded to a palace, so perhaps ...
