Well having just finished our 3rd visit to Jamaica i guess you could say that we are biased about the place.
I started going to Negril with my wife on our honeymoon to the Beaches Negril resort (which is part of the Sandels resots group) in 2004 and haven't looked back since.
It is a really lovely place to go for a holiday, beaches resorts maybe on the costly side for a two week holiday but it is really worth it as they are all inclusive so you never have to worry about food or drink.
The resort has about 3/4 of a mile of the 7 mile long beach at Negril and is bordered by its Beaches Sandy Bay resort where you can also go and use during your stay.
Being on the west side of the island means you can be in a great place to see the sunset but the best place we found was at Rick's Cafe which is about another 45 mins up the coast from the resort and all that you have heard about the place is true!!!
Other trips can be paid for at the resort who then put on coaches for you which can include Dunns River and the other side of the Island.
As we have been to the resort 3 times now we are treated visitors but as friends when ever we go back and i would highly recommend anyone to go to Jamaica.
For all of you who have asked for more info, sea and sand are not the only things on the Island by a long shot as i said you can go on trips which you pay for though the resort to places like Dunns river as mentioned above or on river safaris on the Black river where you can see crocs basking in the sun and if you are brave enough you can even go for a swim.
The is even a trip to the famous Appleton rum plantion where you can sample all of thier wares and be given a free bottle of rum for your visit.
If you want to go shopping in Jamaica be warned they can be very full on with trying to sell you things, but this is how they try and make a living and in the 3 years that we have been going there we have never been approched by anyone trying to sell us drugs which for some of the locals i.e the rastas it is their custom to smoke ganga. So please dont go around with the idea that everyone is going to try and force drugs on you.
On a plus side for me this is a great place to go for diving as it is free for anyone staying at the beaches or sandels resorts and only costs you $340 if you want to learn to dive which covers the cost of the PADI diving course.
