Nepalian Trek - Amazing, but the ethics of it?
Review of The Everest Region (Nepal) by Stainer1986

Advantages: Make the rich only richer, while providing a fantastic holiday for the worlds wealthy.
Disadvantages: Does very litte to support the locals, and even puts there life at risk

... Nepal is located among the southern slopes of the Himalayan Mountain range in the kind of south central part of Asia. It is bordered by China to the north, and India to the east, west and south. The country is divided into 3 main sections; the high mountainous areas (including Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse and Mt. Makalu); the Kathmandu Valley (a circular basin); and the Tarai (a narrow flat belt of alluvial land). With 40,000 people coming to this ...
...that the mountains of Nepal have the potential to generate a lot of money for the local area. This would only seem logical to you or me, but is it really the case, and are there any additional costs involved. Over the course of this piece I will hope to find out the truth about what is really happening. When westerners travel, all they have to worry about is having a good time, as their bags, tents, and any other equipment is all carried by local ... Read review

Come to Nepal!
Review of General: Nepal by fryera2

Advantages: Cheap, friendly people, amazing scenery
Disadvantages: Usual problems of developing countries

I am going to make no bones about this from the start – this is going to be my attempt to act as an unofficial spokesman for the Nepalese tourist industry and try and let people know that Nepal is a safe, fascinating and good value place for everyone to visit. When I was there, I made a promise along with the other members of my group that on my return to England I would try my hardest to promote Nepal to all and sundry. What better way to do this ...
...many thousand? There is no denying that Nepal is a country beset by problems. The vast majority of people live in poverty, there is a real problem with the cleanliness of the cities especially in Kathmandu, the government is corrupt, the traffic is appalling and begging is endemic. No one would deny this, but in my opinion the benefits of Nepal far, far outweigh any other problems, which to be fair are probably present in most third world cities. ... Read review

The world of little Buddha
Review of Kathmandu & Kathmandu Valley (Nepal) by kambodscha-joe

Advantages: culture
Disadvantages: exhaust fumes

In the ast the Kathmandu Valley consisted of three kingdoms: Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur. Only the king of Nepal from the Kathmandu dynasty still exists. He lived in the new Royal Palace, you can’t visit. The places of the old king palaces, which are surrounded from Buddhist and Hindu temples, are called "Durbar Square". Patan today is a part of the town Kathmandu just across the river. Bhaktapur is 20 km far from Kathmandu. Highlights ...
...and the exhaust fumes of Kathmandu for the calm Village Nargakot (20 km from Bhaktapur), where you can see the Himalayan range of the Mt. Everest area. At the next day you can drop the bus and walk to Changu, the oldest temple in the Valley. The most important sights are: Kathmandu Pashaputinath Swayambuhunath (Monkey Temple, Stupa) Durbar Square Patan Durbar Square Kathmandu Boudanath (Stupa) Budahanilakantha (sleeping Vishnu) Neighborhood Bhaktapur ... Pokhara: A Means to an End?
Review of Pokhara (Nepal) by salar15

Advantages: Spectacular scenery and a wealth of opportunities for outdoor pursuits.
Disadvantages: Not great if you are not into outdoor pursuits. Leeches.

There's no doubting that Pokhara is a pretty spectacular place to be. With the jawdroppingly majesterial Annapurna mountain range rearing over Lake Phewa, some of the views you'll experience in the right conditions are simply indescribable; if you were to design the perfect postcard, it would probably look like that, but that would be to take so much away from the sheer aesthetic appeal of the place. Scythed down through the rock by the laconically ...
...which Pokhara is situated is like something out of your imagination - it is truly breathtaking. The first thing to realise about Pokhara is that the town itself isn't that interesting. Sure, it's pleasant enough, the people are friendly, you can gorge yourself on the oddly addictive Tibetan momos until the buffalos come home, and it's generally relaxing, but you can probably get that anywhere in Nepal, and Kathmandu offers so much more in so much ...
