We visited the Grotto while on a mini break to Alghero. We took one of the Boat Trips from in front of the Old Town Walls, easy to find. Be aware that most of the Boat Trips do not include the Entrance fee into the Grotto which you pay on arrival. It is possible to catch a local Bus, the draw back being when you arrive you are on Top of the Cliff and there are about 300 steps down, then of course 300 STEPS BACK UP. The boat docks in the Mouth of the Grotto. The tour is guided and is fairly easy going. If you like Staligtites and mites then you will love the experience. Spectacular formations well presented and lit. It is not a circular tour you retrace the same route out as in. I would recommend the Boat way, not just because of the 300 Steps, but theres that chance of seeing Dolphins. You get the feeling that Tourism is still catching on in Alghero. A lovely resort for a stress free break out of season.
