The Hotel itself The Neuilly Park Hotel is a 3* Hotel in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Paris. Their promotional literature has the Hotel down as "A charming hotel offering a choice of thirty rooms. Each room is decorated according to a different theme and combines originality, elegance and refinement. The decors will astound you and transport you to a different world every time you stay." We did see some themed rooms prior to booking and they were very impressive (have a look at them on www.hotelneuillypark.com). The entrance and hallways are very Art Deco, with suede walls and big Art Nouveau paintings in gothic, gold frames. Check in time is from 2 o'clock onwards (a wee bit late for my liking.) and check out 12 o'clock. You can cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before check-in. Any time after that, and you'll be charged for your first night.
Getting there Nearest Airports: Paris Beauvais-Tille Airport, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Paris Orly are the three main airports in Paris.
Shuttle buses from the airports: The shuttle buses take you to metro stops so you can continue your journey on the underground. From Charles de Gaulle get the Air France "Navette" as far as Porte Maillot and get the metro one stop to "Les Sablons" (or walk 5 mins up "Avenue Charles de Gaulle"!) From Orly get the Air France "Navette" as far as "Invalides" and take the metro to "Les Sablonnes" changing one stop along at "Champs Elysees Clemenceau".
You can also get the metro from the airport. The Hotel is located on Metro line 1. Get off at "Les Sablons". Turn right then first left onto Place du marché and continue along onto rue Madeleine Michelis.
The surrounding area The streets around the Hotel are calm, quiet and leafy. Neuilly is an affluent district, so there are lots of nice restaurants and typically french street cafes and bakeries. It is a bit further out of the centre than we would have liked but the nearest metro stop, "Les Sablons" is handily located on the same line as the Arch de Triomphe, the Champs Elysées, Place de la Concorde, the "Tuileries" and the Louvre. The metro runs from 5.30 a.m. until 1.20 a.m, so not ideal if you want a big night out... I you want a buzzing area with lots of nightlife head further into the centre (Montmartre for example.)
The staff All the staff we encountered were male, we didn't see one female member of staff the whole time we were staying there! The first guy we met was fully bilingual, very friendly and helpful (if a tad smarmy, smirky and well, french! *lol) The others we met were helpful, polite and didn't speak much English (although I'm of the opinion that you should make the effort to communicate in French anyway!)
The facilities The facilities are as follows: There is no bar or dining room, but there is a breakfast area. You can get breakfast for an extra 11EUR (£7). But you might aswell go to the bakery across the road and get it for 1 euro 50! ;) The rooms all have: Modem Access Telephone Voicemail Wi-Fi Hairdryer Safe Cable/satellite (don't switch on the TV after midnight in France unless you're very open-minded!!) Connecting Rooms are available Flat screen LCD TV Private bathroom with towels, complimentary toiletries, bathtub and power shower (annoyingly no shower curtain so you soak the bathroom if you have a shower. Don't leave your knickers on the floor, they'll get wet!)
The price We booked through lastminute.com which was much cheaper. The tariffs quoted below are their standard weekday prices per room per night. There is a 20EUR (£14) discount if you book directly through their website.
Small Single Room 140.00 EUR (£95) Classic Single Room 165.00 EUR (£112) Classic Double/ Twin Room 175.00 EUR (£120)
They have an excellent weekend rate of 69.00 EUR (£47) which applies to all rooms. Add 10EUR (£6) for the summer season.
Personally, I think this is fantastic value for money for a 3* Hotel in Paris. Although if I'd been staying in the week and paying full tariff, I would expect more than our room offered.
Our experience When we stay at a hotel our requirements aren't that high: we want it to be reasonably priced, clean and close to the centre of wherever it is we're staying. We're not into 5* boutique hotels, we just want somewhere to get some kip. This hotel ticked all but one of the above: the room was clean and the price was reasonable, it was just much further out than we were led to believe. They reckon its a 5 minute walk to the Champs Elysées. Well the French must run everywhere or have long legs, because it took us half an hour! We had to check out at 12pm, so as our flight wasn't until the evening, we left our bags with reception. When we came back to collect them, we found they had been left unattended in the hall, and the guy who should have been on reception was round the corner playing Solitaire on his computer! We were not best pleased! We were also misled in that we were told we would have a "City View". Well I guess the view we had of the shop and pavement do count as being part of the city, but I think we were expecting something more Eiffel Tower-y or Arche de Triomph-ery! We had asked to stay in the Flamenco themed room, but when we arrived, we had apparently been given the "normal hotel room" themed room. There wasn't that much special about it really: double bed, en suite bathroom, fridge and TV. I know Hotels do usually bullshit about their location and their rooms being better than they really are: well the Neuilly Park was no exception.
Would I recommend it to others? Yes, if you want a quiet Hotel and don't mind not being right in the centre. Would I stay there again? No.
