There are many wonderful, and awe inspiring places to visit in and around Naples, this Castle is just one of those places. I've always had a love of castles and old house, the fact this was here seemed to good an opportunity to miss out on.

The Castel Dell'Ovo is apparently the oldest castle in Naples, having had many guises throughout the years, it is now a fantastic place to visit.
*** Where is it? ***
The Castle sits on a promontory of land, a small islet, jutting out from the main coastal road in the heart of the Bay of Naples. It is located on Via Partenope, and Via N. Sauro, in the Santa Lucia district, it separates the harbour area in the slightly upmarket sea front areas.
As a landmark it is fantastic, if you walk away from the castle, on the promenade, you will soon be rewarded ...

--HISTORY--
Cardiff Castle is actually the combined work of more than one period, with the remains of the original Roman foundations clearly visible in the structure (marked by a line of red brick to make this clearer to the visitor). The Castle was originally a wooden fort and reconstructed in stone in the 3rd Century. During the Norman invasion, William the Conqueror chose Cardiff to build his castle, and in 1081 building began on a new 'keep' upon an earthwork inside the ancient Roman walls.
In the years that followed, the Lords who were in charge of the Castle made many changes. The stone keep was encircled with a water moat that can still be seen today, but in 1404, during the Welsh rebellion led by Owain Glyndwr, the City of Cardiff was burned to ...

Advantages: Convenient for Pompeii Disadvantages: AC? What AC? Room was like an oven.
We were planning to visit Pompeii but finding a decent hotel close by was as easy as excavating these ancient ruins with a teaspoon. So Naples it was.
The Holiday Inn looked perfect for our needs - on the edge of the city towards Pompei and easy access from the autostrade. When I say easy access, I mean 'in theory'...on a map...in my wildest dreams etc. The Holiday Inn is situated in a modern development of high-rise offices and commercial properties called Centro Direzionale directly connected to a link road from the A1 autostrade. But, this being Naples, where stock car racing is not only the principal hobby, it's downright de rigeur, it proved a little more tricky than directed from the hotel's web page.
