Secret Garden Hostel, not such a secret hideaway

Advantages: Great food, amazing views
Disadvantages: chaotic organisation, expensive

The Secret garden is one of the most popular hostels in Quito and can be found in the San Blas area of the city just beside the old town and a half hour walk from the mariscal tourist area. The hostel is in a beautiful old style colonial house and on entering the hostel it is bright and airy with a small pond and garden. The reception is on the 4th floor so a long walk up at Quito's altitude (2850m). The hostel has a small computer room and common area and a roof terrace with reception, a bar and tables for breakfast and dinner. The rooms themselves are fairly mediocre and can vary in quality. The dorms have between 4 and 7 beds and there are 2 twin rooms and about 6 doubles, one of which is en suite. The front half of the house was the original hostel and the rooms are far more welcoming, often painted bright colours and the bathrooms ...

New Covent Garden conjures up a bewitching brew

Advantages: fresh, natural , tasty
Disadvantages: limitted availabilty

Eye of toad, Wing of bat I'm a veggie , I don't fancy that. It's October already (where has the year gone?) so Halloween is almost upon us. I'm sitting at my cauldron cackling away with my designer pointy hat on and I'm wondering what potion I can create. Luckily the Covent Garden Food Company has come up with a suitably seasonal warming, fresh and natural soup, who really wants to eat spider's legs or blood of dog anyway? Its appropriately named Hubble Bubble Toil and Trouble" and is a pumpkin and pepper soup with "an underlying sweetness of apricots". It sounds unusual and delicious and best of all new Covent Garden soups were on special offer at Tescos as they were 2 for £3. (they are usually around about £1.80 normally. I've always liked the packaging of New Covent Garden soups as they are fun and the tetra pack ...

Review of New Covent Garden Food Co Soup

I want to be a part of it, New York, New York!

Advantages: Comfortable, amazing bathroom, nice rooms
Disadvantages: Small rooms, random cleaning times!

On my recent trip to the USA I left Mr Tart to book the hotel for New York. Normally I wouldn?t leave it to him as I?d end up in the cheapest hostel but my influence is obviously rubbing off as he came up trumps with the Hilton! LOCATION: The Hilton Garden Inn is located at 63 West 35th Street. We wanted something pretty central so we could pay for as little transport as possible. We couldn?t really have done much better. We were a two minute walk from Macys (very important for the girls!) and a 10 minute walk to Times Square. There was also a subway stop literally 10 metres from the entrance to the hotel. PRICES: We stayed in the hotel for two nights. Mr Tart booked through Priceline so we didn?t know exactly what we were going to get but he?d stipulated area and minimum star rating. We paid $293.03 which came through ...
